Electronic Medical Record-Assisted Telephone Follow-Up of Breast Cancer Survivors During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Single Institution Experience.

PURPOSE: The COVID-19 outbreak rapidly became a public health emergency and led to radical changes in patient management. From the start of the pandemic, we used electronic medical record-assisted telephone follow-up (E-TFU) of cancer survivors (CS) to minimize hospital exposure. The aim of this prospective study was to assess how breast cancer survivors (bCSs) perceived E-TFU. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 15-item survey was e-mailed to bCSs who had been managed with E-TFU. The responses were measured using Likert-like scales and were correlated with the main characteristics of the bCS using Pear

Implementing prescriber-pharmacist collaboration to improve evidence-based medication prescribing using asynchronous, non-interruptive electronic health record notifications.

BACKGROUND: Inappropriate prescribing of Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) is a leading cause of adverse outcomes. Electronic health record (EHR)-based notification strategies may support evidence-based prescribing and reduce adverse events. Engaging clinical pharmacists (vs. prescribers) through EHR-based notifications that review inappropriate DOAC prescribing may be an effective strategy for ensuring evidence-based medication prescribing. METHODS: We conducted a pragmatic, single-center, parallel-group, randomized implementation trial using notifications (asynchronous EHR-based notificati

Characterization of Primary IGF-1 Deficiency in a Cohort of Canadian Children with Short Stature Using a Novel Algorithm Tailored to Electronic Medical Records.

(1) Background: Severe primary insulin-like growth factor-I deficiency (SPIGFD) is a rare disorder causing short stature in children due to low insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels. Given the sparsity of reported cases of SPIGFD worldwide, the condition may be underdiagnosed, potentially preventing affected children from receiving therapy with recombinant human IGF-1 (rhIGF-1). Our objective was to determine the prevalence of SPIGFD among children with short stature at a large pediatric tertiary care center through the use of a novel electronic medical record (EMR) algorithm. (2) Method
