Unilateral acute hydrops in a child with bilateral microcornea and iridofundal coloboma.

A 15-year-old female child with history of bilateral poor vision since childhood presented with sudden onset pain, photophobia, and diminution of vision OD for 10 days. Visual acuity was hand motion OD and 1/60 OS. Slit lamp examination revealed microcornea OU with multiple intrastromal fluid clefts OD and an irregular cornea and iridofundal coloboma OS. A clinical diagnosis of acute corneal hydrops OD was made, and the child was subjected to intraoperative optical coherence tomography guided intrastromal fluid drainage with air tamponade. The corneal edema resolved completely within 2 weeks r

Efficacy of Internal Limiting Membrane Flap Techniques with Vitrectomy for Macular Detachment Associated with an Optic Disc Pit.

PURPOSE: To compare the anatomical and functional outcome of adjuvant pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) procedures using the techniques of translocation of an internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap and transplantation of an inverted ILM flap for the treatment of chronic and/or refractory optic disc pit (ODP) maculopathy. METHODS: In this prospective interventional case series study, 9 patients (9 eyes) with chronic and/or refractory ODP maculopathy underwent PPV with either translocation of an ILM flap or transplantation of an inverted ILM flap as adjuvant techniques along with gas tamponade. The an

AUTOLOGOUS LENS CAPSULAR FLAP TRANSPLANTATION COMBINED WITH AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD APPLICATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF REFRACTORY MACULAR HOLE.

PURPOSE: To report results of lens capsular flap transplantation (LCFT) and autologous whole blood application in refractory macular hole (MH) treatment. METHODS: Seven phakic and three aphakic eyes with persistent MH after standard surgery with internal limiting membrane peeling were studied. Lens capsule flap was acquired from the same eye in eight cases (seven phakic and one aphakic). The fellow eye was used in two aphakic eyes without sufficient lens capsule. The fellow eye underwent simultaneous phacoemulsification. All eyes underwent complete vitrectomy, LCFT into the MH, whole blood ap

Folding the internal limiting membrane flap under perfluorocarbon liquid in large, chronic and myopic macular holes.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the present paper is to describe a surgical technique aimed at creating multiple layers of Internal Limiting Membrane (ILM) using Perfluorocarbon Liquid (PFCL) in order to favour the closure of large, chronic and myopic Macular Holes (MH). METHODS: Thirty patients belonging to 3 subgroups: large (> 500 μm), chronic (> 12 months) and myopic (> - 9 diopters), MHs, underwent surgery and completed 6 months follow-up. The ILM was engaged and peeled 360° around the MH, hinged to the rim and folded over the hole. A PFCL bubble spanning the vascular arcades was then injected a

Single-suture single-knot ab interno cyclopexy for extensive posttraumatic cyclodialysis: Modified sewing machine technique.

We describe a modified sewing machine technique that is ab interno and minimally invasive. The single-suture, single-knot endocyclopexy (internal suture fixation) is performed to correct cyclodialysis. This inside-out technique is an alternative to existing standard cleft repair procedures, such as external direct/indirect cyclopexy and endocyclotamponade (internal mechanical tamponade using extraneous agents). Results in 1 case indicate that the modified technique can be used as a primary procedure and in eyes in which previous cyclopexy failed.

PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy and safety of 20% sulfur hexafluoride gas (SF6) and air tamponade in patients who underwent noniridectomized Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). METHODS: A retrospective chart review of patients who underwent DMEK with either air or SF6 tamponade: 41 eyes received air tamponade (group 1) and 41 received SF6 tamponade (group 2). Best spectacle-corrected visual acuity, endothelial cell density, and complications including graft detachment and elevated intraocular pressure were compared. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 8 ± 4 months in group 1

Persistent subfoveolar fluid following retinal detachment surgery: an SD-OCT guided study on the incidence, aetiological associations, and natural history.

PURPOSE: To investigate the incidence and natural history of persistent subfoveolar fluid (PSF) following surgery for macular off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and the effect of PSF on photoreceptor structure and final visual acuity. METHODS: Retrospective study of 61 cases with post-operative optical coherence tomography (OCT) performed within 12 weeks of surgery. Based on aetiology, cases were categorized into tractional retinal tears (TRT) group or atrophic round holes and dialyses (RHD) group to investigate the incidence and duration of PSF. A Kaplan-Meier graph was plotted to compare

Safety and efficacy of manual syringe infusion of distending media for hysteroscopic procedures: a case-control study.

OBJECTIVES: Adverse events associated with large volumes of distending media in hysteroscopic procedures can be life-threatening. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of manual syringe infusion (MI) of distending media for hysteroscopic procedures. STUDY DESIGN: Between January 2011 and December 2013, the medical records of all women who underwent hysteroscopic procedures using MI or the conventional pump-infusion method (PI, the control group) were reviewed. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test, the Chi-square test and the multivariate logistic regression analysis were employe

Visual prognosis and complications following silicone oil removal.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the visual prognosis and the occurrence of significant complications after silicone oil removal (SOR) in recent years and compare them to previously published data. METHODS: A total of 89 eyes of 89 patients who underwent SOR and had at least 6 months of follow-up were included in this retrospective study. Recorded parameters included demographic information, previous ocular history, length of silicone oil retention in the eye, visual acuity (VA) and intraocular pressure (IOP) prior to the SOR procedure and throughout the follow-up period, and the occurrence of postoperat
