Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is a global chronic disease. Argentina's bTB eradication program consists of the Caudal-Fold Tuberculin test (CFT) and the sacrifice of positive animals as the principal measure. However, despite the implementation of the control program, CFT-positive animals continue to appear in some herds, which generates skepticism about the potential to eradicate tuberculosis. The objective of this work was to evaluate the suitability of an ELISA test for the detection of M. bovis specific antibodies (bTB-ELISA) in CFT-negative animals as a complementary strategy to control bTB.

Dengue virus (DENV) is the etiological agent of dengue, the most important mosquito-transmitted viral disease of humans worldwide. UNLABELLED: The diagnosis of narcolepsy is based on clinical history, sleep studies, and, in some cases, cerebrospinal fluid orexin-A/hypocretin-1 measurement. The gold standard for orexin measurement is the radioimmunoassay but other commercial kits are also available, such as the enzyme immune assay (EIA). The specificity of orexin EIA in humans is unknown. We report four cases where orexin levels were measured by EIA and resulted in false positives and the misdiagnosis of narcolepsy. Therefore, orexin EIA measurement should be strongly discouraged in a clinical setting.

PURPOSE: To evaluate a recently marketed commercial glycoprotein enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (gpEIA) kit, the VaccZyme™ VZV gpEIA, for measuring the immunity of varicella-vaccinated children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated the accuracy and reproducibility of the VaccZyme™ VZV gpEIA kit for the detection of antibodies to VZV. Two immunoglobulin G enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) versions using whole promastigotes of Leishmania infantum (syn. Leishmania chagasi) treated either with β-mercaptoethanol (β-ME-ELISA) or trypsin (TRYP-ELISA) as antigens were developed for the diagnosis of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL). We tested a prototype stool enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (TRI-COMBO) that is simultaneously diagnostic for Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Entamoeba histolytica in a rural pediatric clinic in Guatemala. We compared its results to those of three individual ELISAs for these parasites, assessed the prevalence of these parasites, and compared our findings to those found by stool microscopy.
