They are well adapted to the extreme environment where light is absent, and hydrogen sulfide, methane, and other hydrocarbon-rich fluid seepage occur. BACKGROUND: Sensory abnormalities are a key feature of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). In order to characterise these changes in patients suffering from acute or chronic CRPS I, we used Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) in comparison to an age and gender matched control group.
METHODS: 61 patients presenting with CRPS I of the upper extremity and 56 healthy subjects were prospectively assessed using QST. The patients' warm and cold detection thresholds (WDT; CDT), the heat and cold pain thresholds (HPT; CPT) and the occurrence of paradoxical heat sensation (PHS) were observed.

Eighty-six cases of erythema multiforme (EM) were studied based on the distribution of skin lesions. Twenty-nine patients had distinct facial skin lesions as well as lesions on the extremities (Group A) and 57 patients had skin lesions only on the extremities (Group B). The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup was held primarily during the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere, with reports of athletes exposed to significant environmental heat stress. We investigated whether environmental conditions, along with other factors (e.g., time of day, players' age and field position, and club geographic origin), influenced physical performance in this tournament. Information about the performance during 57 matches (n = 1070 observations) was extracted from FIFA technical reports, whereas environmental conditions were obtained through mathematical modeling (ERA5 reanalysis).

PURPOSE: To describe a patient with incontinentia pigmenti (IP) and Raynaud's phenomenon (RP).
OBSERVATIONS: A 5 year-old girl with history of IP was noted to have RP. Visual acuity was unaffected in both eyes, and fundus examination demonstrated regressed peripheral neovascularization. Photos of the patient's hands demonstrated pale discoloration associated with exposure to cold.
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTANCE: IP, known to affect small cerebral and retinal blood vessels, can also affect the small blood vessels in the extremities, resulting in secondary RP.

Gangrene of the extremities in the neonatal period is rare. Etiology is not identified in most cases and management is usually conservative. We describe an unusual case of an abandoned neonate with marked hypothermia, who was brought to us with gangrene of toes, during a severe winter. The toes auto-amputated after 2 weeks. A negative sepsis screen, normal Doppler study, and absence of evidence of hypercoagulable state prompted us to incriminate localized cold injury (frostbite) as the probable cause of gangrene in this newborn infant.

Glomus tumours are relatively uncommon lesions most frequently found in the extremitis, usually in the digits. They are most often solitary lesions but multiple tumours have been reported. If the triad of pain, tenderness and cold intolerance should raise the clinical suspicion of a digital glomus. The histological exam is necessary in the extra digital glomus. We reported a case of fossa poplitea glomangioma with tibialis nerve compression. The treatment of choice was a surgical exision. But the tumour have been redivided a year later without malign transformation.

Accidental hypothermia was studied in 11 patients, five of whom died. This condition occurs spontaneously, usually in a cold environment, and should be suspected in the comatose hypotensive patient. It is easily missed because regular clinical thermometers do not record extremely low body temperatures. It is distinguished from other forms of hypothermia by the very low body temperature and by the absence of recognized causes of hypothermia. Ten of the 11 patients were either alcoholic or diabetic. Intravascular thrombosis was the most common complication leading to death.

METHODS: We analyzed uveitis outpatient data (n = 8,090) from a major hospital in Shanghai between 2017 and 2023, along with meteorological and air pollutant data. A distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) was used to assess the associations between temperature and outpatient visits, adjusting for humidity, pollutants, and temporal factors.

Anticentromere antibody (ACA) was investigated in 116 blood relatives of 22 ACA positive patients affected with scleroderma and, for comparison, in 82 healthy subjects matched for age and sex who belonged to 25 families.
