Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a small, round, blue cell malignant neoplasm that rarely occurs in the craniofacial skeleton, with presentation in the maxilla being exceedingly rare. We report the case of a 14-year-old girl with a two-year history of slowly progressive facial swelling that has recently become greatly enlarged. Imaging revealed an aggressive expansile left maxillary lesion with soft-tissue involvement and internal calcifications. Surgical resection was performed, and histopathological analysis showed sheets of homogenous round cells with minimal cytoplasm and round nuclei. Immunohistoche

Spindle cell/sclerosing rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an uncommon and aggressive neoplasm, especially in adults. This case details a 35-year-old male with a 4-year history of persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP), first misdiagnosed owing to the lack of definitive clinical or radiologic evidence. Advanced imaging ultimately identified a malignant tumor in the infratemporal fossa, which was confirmed as rhabdomyosarcoma through histological examination. Owing to the tumor's inaccessibility, surgical removal was unfeasible, and despite chemotherapy, the cancer advanced, resulting in the patient's

The lipomatous variety solitary fibrous tumor is a soft tissue neoplasm composed of mature adipose tissue and hemangiopericytoma areas. A 53-year-old man consulted for facial asymmetry and maxillofacial magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic lesion, 3 x 2 cm in size, in front of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. Histologically, there were dense spindle cells expressing CD34, CD99, Bcl-2, and STAT6, myxoid zones, hemangiopericytomatous blood vessels, and S100 positive adipocytes. NAB2/STAT6 gene fusion was revealed by RT-PCR. The main differential diagnosis was raised with the spind

Juvenile ossifying fibroma is an uncommon, benign, bone-forming neoplasm that is distinguished from other fibro-osseous lesions primarily by its age of onset, clinical presentation, and potential behavior. It mainly occurs in juveniles and has a slight male predilection and more aggressive behavior than a common ossifying fibroma. There are 2 distinct histopathological variants of this lesion: (1) psammomatoid pattern and (2) trabecular pattern. An aneurysmal bone cyst may occur in association with other bone lesions, such as fibrous dysplasia, ossifying fibroma, and giant cell lesion. The cli

Primary Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a neuroendocrine tumor that typically affects older whites. It usually originates in the dermis, but in rare instances it has arisen in other primary sites, including the oral mucosa and the parotid gland. Explanations for the presence of MCC in these atypical locations have included theories of malignant transformation and neuroendocrine migration. We describe the case of a 35-year-old white woman who had an MCC in the parotid gland and no evidence of any other primary cutaneous lesion. A left superficial parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation was

We discuss the optimal treatment and outcomes for pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary glands by reviewing the pertinent literature. Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign salivary gland neoplasm. It is found mostly in the parotid gland in middle-aged women. It progresses slowly and, left untreated, can produce significant morbidity and, rarely, death. The optimal treatment is superficial or total parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation, which results in local control rates of 95% or higher. Radiotherapy (RT) is useful to obtain local control in patients with positive margins, unres

BACKGROUND As an AIDS-defining illness, the neoplasm Kaposi sarcoma (KS) classically presents as cutaneous lesions that are often associated with periorbital edema. This association with KS is important because it frequently leads to the misuse of steroids in HIV-infected patients. This report presents 2 cases of AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma (AIDS-KS) associated with severe steroid-unresponsive periorbital lymphedema that responded to chemotherapy. CASE REPORT Case 1: A 30-year-old African-American man with KS-related periorbital edema suffered progression after receiving multiple corticosteroi

BACKGROUND: Extranodal nasal-type natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma represents a rare entity, typically originating in the nasal cavity, palate or midfacial region. Signs and symptoms include non-specific rhinitis and/or sinusitis, nasal obstruction, epistaxis, facial swelling and development of deep necrotic ulceration in the midline of the palate, causing an oronasal defect. Differential diagnosis includes fungal infections, Wegener's granulomatosis, tertiary syphilis, other non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and malignant epithelial midline tumors.

The use of endoscopes for surgery of the cerebellopontine angle tumors is steadily obtaining widespread acceptance. The objective of the present study was a laboratory and clinical evaluation of the safety of the endoscope-controlled microneurosurgical removal of the intrameatal vestibular schwannomas through a retrosigmoid approach. The anatomical investigation was done on formalin-fixed cadaver heads and dry temporal bones. Clinical series included 33 consecutive patients (23 women and 10 men; mean age 50 +/- 15 years). A bayonet-style rigid endoscope with 70 degrees angle of view and 4 mm o

A small group of patients is seen because of massive benign facial tumors, which include both soft tissue and bone overgrowth. These people cannot live a normal life because of their facial deformities. Four patients have been chosen to describe a one-stage technique of soft tissue removal and repositioning the facial skeleton utilizing a reverse facial osteotomy. Detailed planning by an experienced craniofacial team, together with preoperative embolization and profound hypotensive techniques have made surgery feasible with minimal blood loss. Rapid and effective rehabilitation of these unfort

PURPOSE: Parotid cystadenoma is an uncommon benign epithelial salivary gland neoplasm. Rarely, it may present with recurrent inflammatory episodes, creating diagnostic uncertainty and operative complexity. To the authors' knowledge, this represents the largest reported case series specifically focused on histologically confirmed parotid cystadenoma presenting with recurrent parotitis. This case series describes five such patients and outlines preliminary clinicopathological features that may support recognition of this presentation, while acknowledging the exploratory nature of the observation

BACKGROUND: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is an autosomal recessive disease marked by solar sensitivity, photophobia, early onset of freckling, and solar-induced cutaneous neoplastic changes. These patients can often develop hundreds of cutaneous tumors, making surgical therapy difficult. Imiquimod 5% cream has been shown to have activity in treating various cutaneous malignancies.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the effectiveness and tolerability of imiquimod 5% cream in treating facial basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) in a brother and sister with XP. These patients were developing skin cancers faster than c

INTRODUCTION: Iatrogenic facial nerve palsy is distressing to the patient and clinician. The deformity is aesthetically displeasing, and can be functionality problematic for oral competence, dental lip trauma and speech. Furthermore such injuries have litigation implications. Marginal mandibular nerve (MMN) palsy causes an obvious asymmetrical smile. MMN is at particular risk during procedures such as rhytidoplasties, mandibular fracture, tumour resection and neck dissections. Cited causes for the high incidence are large anatomical variations, unreliable landmarks, an exposed neural course an

The lesions, infections, traumas, and new growths that affect the intratemporal portion of the facial nerve at all ages are examined and discussed. The facial nerve is shown to be extremely durable and capable of recovery. The management except in complete severence is conservative. Surgical intervention should be restricted in the early stages.

INTRODUCTION: Olfactory carcinoma (OC) is a rare tumor that is often misdiagnosed as olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB). Due to its rarity, there is no established standard treatment for OC, and there have been no reports of successful long-term follow-up treatment yet.
CASE PRESENTATION: Two male patients, aged 54 and 48 years, presented with similar symptoms of nasal obstruction, anosmia, facial swelling, and epistaxis. Imaging in both cases revealed large, locally advanced sinonasal neoplasms. Initial biopsies were concerning for ONB; however, final pathological analyses confirmed high-grade OC

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma is one of the most common benign odontogenic neoplasms. Its surgical excision has the potential to lead to postoperative malocclusion. In this case report, we describe the successful interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment of a patient with ameloblastoma who underwent marginal mandibulectomy.
CASE PRESENTATION: A woman of 20-year-old was diagnosed with ameloblastoma, and underwent marginal mandibulectomy when she was 8 years of age. She had an excessive overjet (11.5 mm) and a mild open bite (- 1.5 mm) with a severely resorbed atrophic edentulous ridge in the area ar
