Intercondylar eminence avulsion fracture in children: long-term follow-up of 14 cases at the end of skeletal growth.

The purpose of this study was to report the long-term clinical outcome in a group of 14 patients treated for an avulsion fracture of the tibial spine. On the basis of the Meyers and McKeever classification, there were four type I avulsions, three type II and seven type III. Seven patients were treated nonoperatively and seven patients were operated according to one of the two different protocols: open reduction and internal fixation and arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation. At follow-up, four patients had clinical signs of joint instability, but no subjective instability. One patient w

Simultaneous bilateral avulsion fractures of the tibial tuberosity in adolescence: A case report and review of over 50 years of literature.

Simultaneous bilateral avulsion fractures of the tibial tuberosity is a rare injury. Since it was first described in 1955, there have been eight similar cases. We have reviewed each of these reports and describe an additional case of a 13-year-old boy, who sustained simultaneous bilateral avulsion fractures of the tibial tuberosity from jumping while playing soccer. Like the previous reports, our patient had a satisfactory result from open reduction and internal fixation of both fractures. Despite being bilateral, these injuries have a low complication rate and good outcome comparable with tha

Avulsion fracture of the anterior half of the foramen magnum involving the bilateral occipital condyles and the inferior clivus--case report.

A 38-year-old male presented with an avulsion fracture of the anterior half of the foramen magnum due to a traffic accident. He had palsy of the bilateral VI, left IX, and left X cranial nerves, weakness of his left upper extremity, and crossed sensory loss. He was treated conservatively and placed in a halo brace for 16 weeks. After immobilization, swallowing, hoarseness, and left upper extremity weakness improved. Hyperextension with a rotatory component probably resulted in strain in the tectorial membrane and alar ligaments, resulting in avulsion fracture at the sites of attachment, the bi

Ring fracture of the base of the skull and atlanto-occipital avulsion due to anteroflexion on motorcycle riders in a head-on collision accident.

This report concerns a head-on collision accident of a motorcycle at a very high speed (c. 80-100 Km/h) against a bonnet-type automobile, in which both the motorcyclist and pillion rider were injured at the base of the skull by violent anteroflexion of the head due to the force of inertia. A difference in their injuries was: the motorcyclist sustained a 'ring' fracture and the pillion rider an atlanto-occipital avulsion; dural tear. Anteroflexion without impact on the occiput such as described above seems to be a rare causal mechanism of the 'ring' fracture. In addition, the mode of action of

Management of a 38-Year-Old Man With Complex Elbow Fracture-Dislocations and Triceps Tendon Avulsion: A Case Report.

Terrible triad injuries of the elbow, which combine posterior dislocation, radial head fracture, and coronoid process fracture, present significant management challenges due to the high potential for instability and stiffness. These injuries require prompt diagnosis and a carefully planned surgical approach to restore joint stability and function. This report describes a complex case involving a 38-year-old male who sustained a terrible triad injury with an uncommon complication of triceps tendon avulsion after a motor vehicle accident. The injury consisted of a comminuted radial head fracture

Arthroscopic Fixation of Minimally Displaced Avulsion Fracture of Ischial Tuberosity Using a "Double-Pulley" Suture Anchor Technique.

Avulsion fracture of the ischial tuberosity is an uncommon injury caused by a sudden, forceful eccentric contraction of the hamstrings that avulses the unfused secondary ossification center from the pelvis. Although open reduction and internal fixation are recommended when fragment displacement exceeds 2 cm, reports describing minimally invasive solutions are still lacking. In addition, for those patients who are engaged in high-intensity sports or physical activities, conservative treatment can compromise hamstring power, delay return to sport, and occasionally result in chronic ischial pain.

A novel approach for anterior cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fracture: arthroscopic modified suture bridge fixation technique.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial avulsion fracture is a rare injury, which usually happens in adults with traffic accidents or sports injuries. Surgery interventions are common treatment methods, they can restore knee function and help to return to normal life. In this study, we described an arthroscopic modified suture bridge fixation technique for ACL tibial avulsion fractures and explored the feasibility and therapeutic effects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed data from January 2020 to May 2022. Data were collected on 18 patients (10 males and

Dual Posteromedial Portal Technique: Arthroscopic Loop Suspensory Fixation-Posterior Cruciate Ligament Tibial Avulsion Fracture.

Posterior cruciate ligament avulsion fracture injuries have been associated with an increased risk of meniscal tears and premature patellofemoral/medial compartment osteoarthritis. Sports-related trauma is a common cause of posterior cruciate ligament avulsion fractures. Surgical management is recommended for displaced bony avulsion of the posterior cruciate ligament to stabilize the knee and prevent knee pain, nonunion, and osteoarthritis progression. This article discusses our preferred treatment using a loop suspensory fixation device through a dual posteromedial portal technique.

Clinical implications of reconsideration of enthesitis/enthesopathy/enthesial erosion, as tendon attachment-localized avulsions and stress fracture equivalents.

Recognizing the mechanical origin of enthesitis/enthesopathy and the avulsion-nature of what had previously been considered erosions, it seems inappropriate to attribute it to stresses related to a person's normal activities. Conversely, sudden or unconditioned repetitive stresses appears the more likely culprit. Studies of enthesial reaction have lacked standardization as to findings present among individuals who appear to be healthy. Clinical evaluation by palpation and manipulation may be as effective as application of radiologic techniques. Recognition of the mechanical nature of the disea

A biomechanical comparison of the double-row suture fixation and compression screw techniques in the treatment of lateral malleolar avulsion fracture.

BACKGROUND: Avulsion fractures of fibula occur with ankle sprains. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical characteristics of double-row suture versus compression screw techniques in treatment of lateral malleolar avulsion fracturelarger than 10 mm in size, which is typically not associated with an anterior talofibular ligament injury. METHODS: We simulated lateral malleolus avulsion fractures in six matched pairs of 12 human cadaveric ankles. These were then randomly divided into two groups: a double-row fixation group and a compression screw group. Biomechanical testing w

Isolated Avulsion Fracture of the Tibial Tuberosity in an Adult Treated with Suture-Bridge Fixation: A Rare Case and Literature Review.

Background and objectives: Isolated tibial tuberosity avulsion fractures are exceptionally uncommon among adults, with limited instances documented in published literature. Here, we describe a case of an isolated tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture in an adult that was treated successfully with the suture bridge repair technique. Patient concerns: A 65-year-old female visited the outpatient department with left knee pain after a slip and fall. Lateral radiographs and sagittal MR images of the left knee revealed the tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture, but the fracture line did not extend into

Pull-in suture: a novel reconstruction technique for tendon avulsion injury at the musculotendinous junction associated with forearm open fracture.

We present three cases of strong one-staged tendon reconstruction for musculotendinous junction avulsion tendon injuries, and called it a 'pull-in suture'. The clinical outcomes of this method are comparable to those of tendon transfer; it is an effective reconstruction method that should be considered as an initial treatment procedure.
