PURPOSE: The therapy of distal radial fractures in children is expected to be as non-invasive as possible but also needs to deliver the definite care for gaining optimal reduction and stabilizing the fracture. Therefore, closed reduction and immobilization is competing with routine Kirschner wire fixation. The aim of our study was to investigate if closed reduction and immobilization without osteosynthesis can ensure stabilization of the fracture.
METHODS: We chose a retrospective study design and analyzed 393 displaced distal radial fractures in children from 1 to 18 years with open epiphyse

INTRODUCTION: The primary goal of treatment of fractures of the zygoma is the perfect restoration of function and aesthetic appearance. An adequate surgical treatment must combine adequate fracture reduction with the lowest possible morbidity of the surrounding soft tissues. This is the principle that guides the use of closed method for the treatment of simple fractures of the zygomatic bone. For a long-term evaluation, it is necessary to develop a method of volumetric orbitometry using tomography and use it for the evaluation of recent and late outcomes of patients treated with the closed tec

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify factors which contribute to loss of reduction (LOR).
METHODS: Outpatient records and initial, post-reduction (PR) and follow-up radiographs of patients with a distal radial metaphyseal fracture were reviewed to determine demographic factors; fracture characteristics (obliquity, comminution, intact ulna); three-point cast index (3PI); and initial, PR, and follow-up displacement (angulation and translation in the sagittal and coronal planes). Univariate and multivariate regression were used to identify significant risk factors for LOR.
RESULTS: A

A retrospective study was undertaken into 105 cases of closed fractures of the tibial head which had been treated by percutaneous elevation and fixation at the Surgical Casualty Ward of Dortmund, between 1973 and 1983. Follow-up check made 24 months from surgery, on average, revealed functional results which were in all respects comparable to those recorded from cases of open reduction and fixation. The approach was found to be applicable to closed reduction and impression fractures with first-grade and second-grade damage to soft tissue. Stability in exercise is claimed together with low surg

RATIONALE: Scapular fractures caused by domestic low-voltage alternating current (220 V, 50 Hz) electrical injury are rare and can be easily missed or misdiagnosed in emergency clinical practice. This report presents 2 such cases and, through a pooled analysis of relevant literature, summarizes and analyzes the underlying mechanism, key points for early diagnosis, and treatment strategies for this rare injury pattern. The aim is to enhance clinical awareness of this condition and to provide a reference for early recognition and standardized management.

Management of ankle fractures necessitating surgery is impacted by soft tissue swelling, often delaying open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). Subjective evaluations are inconsistent, and traditional measurement methods are often inaccurate or impractical. This prospective observational study included 17 adults with unilateral closed ankle fractures requiring surgical fixation. A measurement protocol on regions of interest (ROI) was utilized, employing a handheld 3D scanner for daily volume scans of the fractured ankle, comparing these measurements with subjective assessments of swelling

INTRODUCTION: Secondary lymphedema is a very common clinical issue with millions of patients suffering from pain, recurrent skin infections, and the constant need for a decongestive therapy. Well- established because of oncologic procedures, secondary lymphedema is also a well-known phenomenon after trauma. However, precise epidemiological data of posttraumatic lymphedema upon severe extremity injuries are rare.
METHODS: In the present study, we analyzed a patient cohort of 223 individuals who suffered closed fractures of the upper and lower extremity between 2016 and 2020. All of them simult

BACKGROUND: Condylar fractures lack clear treatment guidelines and may have a lasting effect on temporomandibular joint function. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), containing growth factors enhances healing in orthopedic fractures, but its role in condylar fractures remains unexplored.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate PRP's effect on pain, function, and signs and symptoms of anterior disc displacement (ADD) in treating unilateral condylar fractures. Study design, setting, and sample: The investigators implemented a double-blinded nonrandomized placebo-controlled trial enrolling su

INTRODUCTION: Tibial shaft fractures are the most common long bone fractures and carry a significant risk of nonunion, particularly in open injuries. This increased risk has been attributed to heightened activation of damage-associated molecular pathways, cellular senescence, and alterations in the fracture milieu. However, most supporting evidence arises from animal studies under controlled conditions, and the cellular and biochemical environment of human traumatic fractures remains poorly understood. While mechanical and patient-related factors have been associated with impaired healing, the

UNLABELLED: In the current scenario of medical education, a trend of using models and simulators to train operational skills, especially in the practice of basic orthopedic techniques, is growing. This form of teaching allows academics to maximize learning opportunities and contributes to improving the quality of care for their future patients. However, the realistic simulation has high costs as a major limitation.
OBJECTIVE: To develop a low-cost orthopedic simulator for practicing pediatric forearm reduction skills in the preclinical setting.
METHODS: A model of an arm and forearm with a f

BACKGROUND: Angulated wrist and forearm fractures are among the most common pediatric fractures, and they often require closed reduction with anesthesia. There are several issues associated with pediatric anesthesia including the low but non-zero risk of significant complications, increased physician and staff time and effort, and increased cost. Despite these issues, there have not been any studies to prove that using anesthesia results in better outcomes or higher caregiver satisfaction in comparison to performing closed reductions without anesthesia. The purpose of this study was to evaluat
