A teenager was admitted with an iron-deficiency anemia. The gastroscopy found an atrophic body gastritis, which revealed a pernicious anemia. This diagnosis is rare in paediatric patients, the frequency of pernicious anemia increasing with age. Iron-deficiency anemia is mainly described in young people.

Gastric outlet obstruction by gall stone is a rare complication of a common disorder. Two cases are reported here. The investigations are conducted along the same lines as for pyloric stenosis. The diagnosis can be made with a barium meal or gastroscopy. Treatment is by surgical intervention after adequate resuscitation.

One hundred patients with non ulcer dyspepsia with history of chronic tobacco chewing were examined endoscopically to assess the effect of tobacco ingestion on the gastric mucosa. 94 patients have been operated upon for haemorrhagic gastroduodenal ulcer disease in the Wenckebach-Krankenhaus during the years 1986-1990. In all but 6 patients the ulcer has been controlled by an emergency gastroscopy. 25 of these patients had to undergo emergency operation at once for persistent bleeding after gastroscopy. From the other patients, another 31 suffered rebleeding and had to be laparotomised in an emergency procedure, too. Only in 38 cases an interval-operation was possible.
