Sleep disorders affect one-third of the general population, with prevalence significantly increasing among the elderly. Rocking beds utilizing vestibular stimulation have shown promise as non-pharmaceutical interventions for improving sleep quality. However, existing designs lack the necessary features for retirement facilities, such as protective handles and reclining backrests, limiting their accessibility for elderly individuals who often experience markedly reduced sleep quality. In this work, we introduce Somnomat Care, an evolution of the long-running Somnomat sleep intervention project.

Geriatric intermediate care facilities (GICF) were started by subsidies from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1987 to promote the return of elderly from hospitals to their homes or nursing homes and to give support to the cared elderly and their families. Two periods of geriatric gynecological surgery (1947-1959 and 1960-1972) at the University Women's Hospital in Hamburg-Eppendorf were compared in regard to the age of the patient, surgical indications, surgical procedure, anesthetic technique, preoperative and postoperative morbidity, length of hospitalization and mortality rate. This article describes a project to improve nursing care quality in long-term care (LTC) by retooling registered nurses' (RN) geriatric clinical competence. A continuing education course was developed to prepare LTC RNs (N = 84) for national board certification and improve technological competence. The certification pass-rate was 98.5%. This study examines the intention of advanced practice nurses (APNs) to utilize health optimization programs (HOPs) for addressing clients' chronic disease in various work settings (i.e., nursing homes or other care settings).
