Visual impairments are common after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and negatively affect quality of life. We describe a 39-year-old woman with a severe TBI who was evaluated by the inpatient optometry and vision rehabilitation service with findings of complete right homonymous hemianopia and right cranial nerve III palsy with 30-degree right exotropia (eye turn out) and complete right ptosis (eyelid will not open). Aspergillosis has emerged as important human mycoses, in view of the ever expanding population at risk. The emergence of resistance to the most commonly used drugs for aspergillosis, the azoles, the mediocre activity, and frequent toxicity of the current antifungal armamentarium, support the need for development of novel antifungals for treatment of this disease. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: There is a continuing debate as to whether the patient optically correctable at distance to within 8 prism diopters of perfect alignment requires treatment for persisting overconvergence at near, and if treatment is indicated, what it should be.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: For the patient whose misalignment at distance is reduced to 8 or fewer prism diopters, my preference is for the full cycloplegic correction plus a bifocal in the first prescription, to discourage virtually all accommodation initially, with pull back later.

We report a case of Benson's Syndrome, a form of occipital Alzheimer's disease, with posterior cortical atrophy on magnetic resonance imaging, in a 62-year-old male, who presented with visual problems, ascribed to the eyes, and had even undergone cataract/intraocular lens surgery in the right eye; and change of glasses 21 times over the past 2 years, with no apparent benefit. This case is of interest both on account of its rarity, and to highlight its features since the diagnosis may be missed in an ophthalmological setting where such patient may go for first consult.

This article reports on the optical properties of Er3+ ions doped CdO-Bi2O3-B2O3 (CdBiB) glasses. The materials were characterized by optical absorption and emission spectra. HYPOTHESIS: Microstructurally arrested matter, from molecular glasses to soft glassy materials, can retain a memory of their thermal or mechanical (shear) histories. Their history-dependent and nonlinear microstructural recoveries have been studied within the Kovacs framework.
