OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the advantages of ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM) used for the reattachment surgery of traumatic ciliary body detachment.
METHODS: 33 cases diagnosed by UBM as ciliary body detachment were studied. The surgical results of these cases were analyzed and compared with that of 83 cases which were simply diagnosed by a gonioscope.

OBJECTIVE: To determine frequencies of various types of glaucoma in an urban community of Congo.
METHODS: The records of 176 patients with the diagnosis of glaucoma examined between 1991 and 1995 at a non-university center were reviewed. A complete ophthalmological examination was performed in each patient including best visual acuity, refraction, slit-lamp examination, ophthalmology and intraocular pressure measurements. We examined 101 patients (171 eyes) with primary angle-closure glaucoma by pressure gonioscopy to study the distribution and the morphology of peripheral anterior synechiae. The incidence of peripheral anterior synechiae was 86.8% in the eyes with acute primary angle-closure glaucoma, 51.4% in their fellow eyes, and 83.3% in the eyes with chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma. Administration of 60 ml/kg of water to anaesthetized dogs increased intraocular pressure; this reached its maximum at 15 min after ingestion, except in young dogs, whose maximum was attained at 10 min. A 75-year-old woman who underwent implantation of an anterior-chamber intraocular lens was noted to have the lens disappear from the anterior chamber four days after surgery and reappear on the eleventh postoperative day. Ultrasound documented the position of the lens as apparently lying posterior to the sclera and anterior to the ciliary body. Extrusion through a cyclodialysis cleft superonasally was the apparent mechanism of exit and reentry. Pseudophakic dislocation is becoming increasingly common.

Trabeculectomy specimens from three eyes with Sturge-Weber syndrome were examined histopathologically.
