BACKGROUND: Neuropathy is common in Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM, an IgM-associated lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma) and in IgM-monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (IgM-MGUS). Paraneoplastic or paraimmune mechanisms are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of these neuropathies. Attempts at distinguishing WM and IgM-MGUS neuropathies are lacking especially among bone marrow (BM) confirmed patients.
METHODS: Retrospective analyses were performed on BM confirmed WM (N=30) and IgM-MGUS (N=73) neuropathy patients with neurologic assessments and hematologic features.

The case of a 77-year-old man with two monoclonal proteins, IgG lambda and IgG kappa, is presented. The IgG kappa protein increased in concentration, and, after two years, overt multiple myeloma developed with anemia and suppression of polyclonal immunoglobulins. OBJECTIVES: Mannitol 20% (M) and NaCl 7.5% (H) are hypertonic solutions used in-patient in hypovolaemic shock and in case of increased ICP. To our knowledge no study in humans compared them in an equiosmolar load. The objectives of this study were to compare the pharmacokinetics of both solutions in an equiosmolar load with an isotonic solution (NaCl 0.9% (C)) in terms of osmolarity, electrolytes and haemodynamic parameters over time.

AIMS: We assessed whether left atrial volume index (LAVI) was associated with the presence of microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes, and whether this association was independent of hemodynamic and non-hemodynamic factors.

We conducted this study to determine the feasibility and safety of cladribine followed by rituximab in patients with hairy cell leukemia including the vari-ant form (HCLv). Cladribine 5.6 mg/m² given IV over 2 hours daily for 5 days was followed ∼ 1 month later with rituximab 375 mg/m² IV weekly for 8 weeks.
