This report describes a case of rapidly progressive periodontal tissue breakdown and bone loss in an HIV-infected markedly immunosuppressed homosexual male. Within 6 months of initial presentation with a necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, the lesion extended to a necrotizing ulcerative stomatitis involving the surrounding periodontium and palatal mucosa. We report on three HIV-infected homosexual male patients with atypical manifestations of mollusca contagiosa (MC). Their clinical presentation mimicked sebaceous nevus of Jadassohn, ecthyma and giant condylomata acuminata. HIV-infected patients feature MC with atypical morphology in about two thirds of the cases. At National Taiwan University Hospital, from 1986 to 1996, autopsies were performed on 16 patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. There were 15 men and 1 woman. The objective of this paper was to present the trends in the AIDS epidemic in the population groups at highest risk in Brazil. Discriminant analysis was used to reclassify cases with unknown risk into one of the three groups: IDU (injecting drug users), MSM (men who have sex with men), and heterosexuals. Three independent reviews of the world literature dealing with the outcome of sex reassignment surgery in transsexualism are presented. In 10-15% of the patients who undergo sex reassignment the results end up in a failure. There are as many failures in the female to male group as in the male to female group. Optimal results from the surgical procedures are important for a successful outcome. Relatively high age when first requesting sex reassignment may be regarded as a risk factor for poor outcome.
