INTRODUCTION: Hydatidiform mole is one of the gestational trophoblastic disease and comprises complete (CM) and partial moles (PM), which carries a risk of developing persistence disease, invasive mole or choriocarcinoma. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been discovered in various tissues, including neoplastic tissues. Its role in the pathogenesis of molar pregnancy or as biomarkers are still largely uncertain. Forty one cases of malignant trophoblastic tumor which were confirmed by pathological examinations were reviewed. The diagnostic correspondence rate by sonography was 92.3% (38/41). The image patterns, types of tumor, differential diagnosis and diagnostic value of sonography were also explored in this paper.

A 50-year-old woman was admitted for hysterectomy due to persistent vaginal bleeding and enlargement of the uterus. Before operation a significant increased beta-HCG was measured. Histologic examination of uterine contents obtained by aspiration showed trophoblastic disease. An decrease in beta-HCG was registered postoperatively. However, two weeks later it rose again and the patient started treatment with methotrexate. It is recommended that the treatment of patients with invasive gestational trophoblastic disease is centralized.

A case of chorioadenoma destruens with uterine rupture is reported. The patient was admitted because a persistent uterine bleeding after abortion about two months before. The titulation of gonadotrophic hormone resulted in 25,000 unities. After curettage she was complicated with hemoperitoneum and went to surgery. We report here Doppler color flow mapping carried out before and after chemotherapy for an invasive mole. This mapping revealed an abnormal color blood flow within the echo-free space in the uterine myometrium, and pulsed Doppler ultrasound showed a prominent arteriovenous shunt flow. Similar features were obtained by pelvic angiography (PAG). After 4 courses of chemotherapy, the area of abnormal colored flow was reduced and findings on the PAG were supportive. The patient is being closely followed, using Doppler color flow mapping.

In order to establish the value of ultrasonography in the diagnosis and management of trophoblastic tumor, we have performed ultrasonic examination on 32 patients. In 24 out of 32 cases, the focal echo could be detected within the uterus. The ultrasonically estimated volume of the focus was correlated with the level of urinary hCG.
