This letter notifies the readers of the Dysphagia journal of an error in the original published version of this manuscript, for which a previously available open source spreadsheet tool had been used to calculate the position of the hyoid bone or larynx on lateral view videofluoroscopic images. An error in the mathematical formula built into the spreadsheet resulted in a reversal of the results for the X and Y planes of measurement. This erratum provides corrections to the results and interpretations of the original manuscript.

Dessection of the musculature of the palate, pharynx, and styloid process was carried out in a cadaver aged 78 years with an unrepaired complete cleft palate. A new muscle named "the accessory stylohyoid" was found to be attached to the styloid process and the lesser cornu of the hyoid bone bilaterally. Anatomical changes in other muscles especially the stylopharyngeus and palatopharyngeus are described. The functions of these muscles are discussed on the basis of the anatomical findings and previous observations of other investigators.

A newborn female infant with severe inspiratory stridor was found to have a laryngeal non-encapsulated hamartoma in the supraglottic area, medial to the hyoid bone and extending into the petiole of the epiglottis. Histologic examination revealed an extremely uncommon glandular hamartoma. Surgical management in the newborn period consisted of conservative endoscopic excision combined with open laryngofissure. The hamartoma was removed in the newborn period to avoid tracheostomy, because decanulation after tracheostomy in infants can be difficult.

Ectopic thyroid is an uncommon embryological aberration characterized by the presence of thyroid tissue at a site other than in its usual pretracheal region. Usually it occurs along the path of descent of the developing thyroid primodium from the foramen caecum, commonest being lingual followed by sublingual and in the anterior midline of neck at, or below, the level of the hyoid bone. It is unusual for lingual thyroid to present simultaneously with another ectopic thyroid; reported here are two such cases.

A thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) is a common pediatric midline neck mass. Most TGDCs occur in the region of the hyoid bone but have been found less commonly in areas from the oral cavity to the sternum. We present the first reported case of a multifocal floor of mouth (FOM)/cervical TGDC representing an atypical embryonic course. We also review atypical presentations of TGDC and provide a summary of cases involving FOM and multifocal cysts.
