In this work, CdS quantum dots (QDs) supported on Ga2O3 and In2O3 are applied for visible-light-driven H2 evolution from aqueous solutions that contain lactic acid. With Pt as the cocatalyst, the H2 evolution rates on CdS/Pt/Ga2O3 and CdS/Pt/In2O3 are as high as 995.8 and 1032.2 μmol h(-1), respectively, under visible light (λ>420 nm) with apparent quantum efficiencies of 43.6 and 45.3% obtained at 460 nm, respectively. The cycloannulation of β-oxodithioesters and tryptamine in dichloromethane in the presence of a catalytic amount of InCl3 and TFA gave the novel 5-aryl/heteroaryl 2a(1),9b-dihydro-1H-2a,5a-diaza-cyclopenta[jk]fluorene-3(2H)-thiones in moderate to good yields. The reaction was proposed to involve a tandem transformation of thioamide, protonation, and dehydrative cyclization. KMnO4-oxidation of these newly prepared compounds yielded oxidative desulfurization products in good yields.

Functional imaging is ideally suited to monitoring the effect of specific therapy on disease processes. In this pilot study five patients with AIDS and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) were imaged with Indium-111 labelled pooled human immunoglobulin (111In-HIG) during infection and after therapy for PCP. We report phosphinidenes (PR) stabilized by an intramolecular frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chelate. These adducts include the parent phosphinidene, PH, which is accessed via thermolysis of coordinated HPCO. The reported FLP-PH species acts as a springboard to other phosphorus-containing compounds, such as FLP-adducts of diphosphorus (P2 ) and InP3 . Our new adducts participate in thermal- or light-induced phosphinidene elimination (of both PH and PR, R=organic group), transfer P2 units to an organic substrate, and yield the useful semiconductor InP at only 110 °C from solution.

Indium-doped zinc oxide, a potential alternative material to indium tin oxide, was analyzed in powder form via 67Zn magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR). We report a case of a 39-year-old woman from Adelaide who developed allergic contact dermatitis to the rare allergen indium in her ring. The allergen was sourced for patch testing using the Contact Allergen Bank Australia (CABA), based at the Skin and Cancer Foundation in Melbourne, and posted to Adelaide. This case illustrates the usefulness of CABA in facilitating patch testing throughout Australia, especially when rare allergens are involved.
