INTRODUCTION: Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) disease is a common source of low back and buttock pain and is often linked to prior lumbar fusion, pregnancy, trauma, or repetitive loading. Because conservative measures such as injections and radiofrequency can be short-lived, interest has shifted toward minimally invasive SIJ fusion.

Twenty-two patients with supratentorial malignant gliomas were treated postoperatively with concurrent intracarotid chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Eleven patients at M.D. Anderson Hospital were referred for neurologic evaluation after having their internal or external iliac arteries catheterized for the treatment of localized pelvic or lower extremity tumors. An inordinately high rate of renal complications was encountered among 35 patients treated for thrombotic or thromboembolic occlusion of the leg by injection of streptokinase into a bypass graft or native artery. To study the mechanisms by which propranolol suppresses essential tremor, accelerometric recordings were made from four normal subjects and eight patients with that tremor, and small amounts of isoproterenol and propranolol were infused intravenously or into one brachial artery. The safety of treatment of renal hemorrhage from trauma with angiographic injection of autologous clot was investigated in rats by demonstrating the effect of various sizes of clot emboli on renal survivial. A large amount of clot injected into the entire distal part of the renal arterial tree (equivalent to 20 cu cm in the human) was required to produce a 15% infarction. This large safety range is possibly due to the endogenous fibrinolytic capability of normal vascular endothelium.
