A method to determine the quantitative induction and challenge of the allergenicity of externally applied toiletories and cosmetics, including their components, is described. The experiment used oil-soluble cinnamic aldehyde and water-soluble formalin as allergens, and guinea pigs as the experimental animals. A high sensitization method resulted, carried out as follows. Food allergy affects 2.5% of adults and 6-8% of children, and is a leading cause of life-threatening anaphylactic episodes. Food allergy is defined as an adverse reaction to foods that is mediated immunologically and involves specific IgE or non-IgE mechanisms. A 67-yr-old female patient gave a history of allergy to lignocaine. When she was challenge-tested with the intradermal injection of 0.5% bupivacaine 0.2ml she had a systemic reaction. This reaction was accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of complement C4 in the plasma, which indicated that the reaction was immunologically-mediated. This is the first report of allergy to a local anaesthetic drug which has been documented by concurrent immunological changes.

BACKGROUND: The pentavalent antimonials are considered the first-choice drugs for treatment of leishmaniasis. Intralesional therapy is used to minimize the systemic effects of the drug.

BACKGROUND: Methylene blue allergy is a well-known entity associated with food or lymph node location. Inactivation of viruses by methylene blue in fresh-frozen plasma (FFP-MB) has been recently introduced in France after many years of use in other parts of Europe.

We report the case of a patient who suffered two epileptic attacks, each one associated with an anaphylactic shock due to wasp venom. He had no history of atopy nor any known diseases.
