PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate patients with uveal metastasis based on primary tumor site.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis from Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, USA, for uveal metastasis clinical features and outcomes based on the primary tumor site.
RESULTS: There were 2214 uveal metastases diagnosed in 1111 consecutive patients. The demographics included mean age of 60 years (median 61 years), Caucasian race (88%), and female gender (64%). Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) has rarely been associated with ocular manifestations. We report a case of bilateral ocular involvement by PTLD with histopathologic features of extranodal marginal zone (MALT) lymphoma in an 8-year-old boy following orthotopic heart transplantation. The anterior segment disease was treated successfully using a combination of intraocular and systemic injections of humanized anti-CD20 antibody (rituximab).

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF 1) is an autosomal dominant disorder with high index of spontaneous mutations and extremely varied and impredictible clinical manifestations. The aim of this work was to give an account of eye disorders in NF1. 132 patients of age 0-16 years with NF1 were followed up for 15 years. They were checked repeatedly for ophthalmologic disorders. Congenital ectropion uveae (CEU) is a rare, nonprogressive anomaly characterized by the presence of iris pigment epithelium on the anterior surface of the iris stroma, often associated with neurofibromatosis and occasionally with other ocular anomalies. Diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis is a rare, frequently fatal disorder. We describe the case of a neonate with numerous cutaneous and ocular hemangiomas. Hepatic hemangiomas were noted at 4 weeks of age, associated with congestive heart failure resulting from hepatic arteriovenous shunting. This condition was controlled by treatment with prednisone, interferon alfa-2b and hepatic embolization. Treatment of cutaneous hemangiomas with the tunable dye laser prevented hemorrhage, facilitated routine skin care, and allowed uninhibited intravenous access during hospitalization.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive malignancy associated with poor prognosis. Metastasis to sites outside the chest at the time of initial diagnosis, such as bone, brain, and liver metastasis have been found in most SCLC patients. Iris metastases from SCLC have rarely been previously reported, and often cause eye pain and blindness in patients. Here, we report a patient with SCLC who presented with iris metastasis in the right eye and metastasis in the left adrenal gland due to disease progression on first-line therapy, which subsequently caused pain and blindness in the right eye.

CASE REPORT: The case is presented of a patient referred to us with suspicion of a ciliary body melanoma due to a pigmented lesion in iris root of left eye, associated with high intraocular pressure, despite maximal topical and systemic medication. PURPOSE: Surgical excision of peripheral iris or ciliary body melanomas can be performed antero-posteriorly (irido-cyclectomy) with mydriasis or postero-anteriorly (cyclo-iridectomy) with miosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of both surgical techniques.
