Which Risk Factors Predict Knee Ligament Injuries in Severely Injured Patients?-Results from an International Multicenter Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Ligament injuries around the knee joint and knee dislocations are rare but potentially complex injuries associated with high-energy trauma. Concomitant neurovascular injuries further affect their long-term clinical outcomes. In contrast to isolated ligamentous knee injuries, epidemiologic data and knowledge on predicting knee injuries in severely injured patients is still limited. METHODS: The TraumaRegister DGU® (TR-DGU) was queried (01/2009-12/2016). Inclusion criteria for selection from the database: maximum abbreviated injury severity ≥ 3 points (MAIS 3+). Participating coun…

[Treatment of isolated and multiple ligament injuries of the knee: anatomy, biomechanics, diagnosis, indications for repair, surgery].

Complex knee ligament injuries are characterized by simultaneous rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and/or the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and at least one collateral ligament. Isolated injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and PCL have a high healing capacity and can be treated conservatively in many cases. Ruptures of the MCL can also be treated conservatively in complex injuries if the cruciate ligaments are reconstructed. Ruptures of the lateral structures usually need surgical reconstruction. Indications for acute surgical repair include meniscus dislocation, e

Uses of transcutaneous oxygen monitoring in the management of below-knee amputations and skin envelope injuries (SKI).

Conventional noninvasive hemodynamic techniques may fail to predict reliable healing of skin envelope injuries (SKI) in determining the site and timing of late amputations and the probability of healing of SKI following revascularization of ischemic extremities. This study reports the use of multiple transcutaneous oxygen mapping as performed in a cohort of 12 limbs requiring below-knee amputation (Group I), 21 patients requiring revascularization for SKI with prompt healing (Group II-A) or delayed healing (Group II-B), and 14 patients with nonischemic SKI (Group III) who also experienced heal

The Use of Arthroscopy in Diagnosis and Operative Treatment of Knee Posterolateral Corner Injuries: A Narrative Review.

Injuries to the posterolateral corner (PLC) of the knee represent a complex clinical entity that is frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated, often leading to persistent instability and failure of concomitant ligament reconstructions. Although open surgical approaches to the PLC have been extensively described, the role of arthroscopy in the diagnosis and management of these injuries remains less clearly defined despite increasingly encouraging clinical and biomechanical results. The aim of this narrative review was to analyze the role of knee arthroscopy in the diagnosis, evaluation, and tr

Are running biomechanics different between females and males with knee injuries? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: To synthesise the evidence comparing lower limb running biomechanics between females and males with knee injuries. METHODS: We searched six databases (Medline, Embase, Cinahl, SPORTdiscus, Web of Science, and Scopus) from inception to October 2025. We included studies that reported biomechanical data separately for females and males with knee injuries (e.g. patellofemoral pain (PFP), iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS), anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLr)) during running using three-dimensional motion capture and/or force plates. Risk of bias and the quality of biomechanical…

Evaluation of Intra-Articular Knee Injuries Using Infrared Thermography in Adult Military Personnel of the Brazilian Army.

UNLABELLED: Researchers have used cold stress to highlight inflammatory processes as well as injuries. However, its use in analyzing knee injuries through thermography has not yet been well-established. This paper aimed to assed the effects of cold stress in absolute temperatures and the thermal asymmetries of injured knees, as well to evaluate the perceptions of physicians who aren't specialists in thermology regarding these differences. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study involved images taken using non-probability sampling of 08 military men (from 20 to 45 years old) and 02 military w…

Ultrasound-Guided Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection for Deep Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) Injuries of the Knee.

BACKGROUND: Deep medial collateral ligament (dMCL) injuries are a known cause of medial knee pain, which can result from either trauma or degenerative conditions. While conservative management, including bracing and physical therapy, remains the first-line treatment, persistent symptoms may necessitate additional interventions. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has emerged as a promising treatment modality due to its ability to enhance ligament healing by promoting collagen synthesis and tissue regeneration. Recent studies highlight PRP's potential to improve pain and function in patients wit

Examining the current scope of interventional clinical trials for knee injuries: Review of a clinical trials registry.

PURPOSE: Every clinical trial in the United States has to be registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, which has enabled evaluations of current and discontinued clinical trials in all areas of expertise. Knee injuries are common in all levels of sport, and it is becoming increasingly more important to prevent these at a younger age so they do not affect the person later in life. The purpose of this study was to create a summary of the knee injury interventional clinical trial portfolio. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study design to assess interventional trials registered at ClinicalTrials.g…
