An infracochlear cholesteatoma of the petrous apex with direct contact to the internal carotid artery (ICA) is rare. Due to the risk of cochlear injury with consecutive deafness or injury of the ICA, precise preoperative planning of the approach and strategy is recommended, as well as thorough preoperative counseling of the patient for their informed consent. This case report presents navigated endoscopically controlled transtympanic resection of such a cholesteatoma recurrence. Hearing capacity was not impaired and the patient shows no signs of recurrence.

The objective of the present study was to elucidate the dynamics of the hormonal status of the adrenal glands in the patients suffering from Menière's disease in its different clinical forms. We examined a total of 26 patients at the age from 29 to 47 years presenting with this condition. All the patients were divided into two groups depending on the character of the disease. The major neurological feature of prion diseases is a neuronal loss accomplished through either apoptosis or autophagy. In this review, I compared axonal alterations in prion diseases to those described 40 years earlier as a result of nerve ligation. Acute onset of vestibulocochlear and facial nerve dysfunction due to a stress fracture of the petrous part of the temporal bone was diagnosed in 3 horses. The fracture was secondary to chronic inflammatory changes in the petrous part of the temporal bone and the proximal stylohyoid bone, with fusion of the temporohyoid joint. Bacterial meningoencephalitis was a complicating factor. Treatment resulted in reduction of severity of clinical signs in 2 of the 3 cases, but residual compensated vestibular deficits persisted.

We studied the influence of ischemia/reperfusion of the middle cerebral artery in the rat's brain on the deferred violation of cognitive functions of the brain which are similar to main symptoms observed in the development of Alzheimer's disease.
