The use of antibiotic impregnated beads has been shown to be a valuable adjunct in the prevention of infection in open fractures. The bead pouch technique employs these beads within the wound, producing high local levels of antibiotic in a moist environment. Permeability of various gypsum- and phosphate-bonded investments was measured during conventional burn-out procedures. We investigated the chemical interaction between zirconia surfaces and functional monomers using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This article is a clinical and technical report to illustrate the prosthetic correction of an individual interdental papilla, which had been lost due to periodontal disease. The patient presented with localised aggressive periodontitis and was successfully treated non-surgically. As a result of the periodontal disease and its management, the interdental papilla between the 11 and 21 were lost and prosthetically replaced. The clinical details of the case and the technical procedures are fully illustrated within this article.

A 10-year-old female child of the Jehovah's Witness faith presented with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (S,L,L), pulmonary atresia, and a ventricular septal defect. A successful surgical correction was performed using an aortic homograft as a valved extracardiac conduit without the use of homologous blood or blood products. We used permanent splinting of the sternum with a methyl methacrylate resin plate to prevent compression of the conduit.

Two adhesives, Super Bond and Panavia, were evaluated for shear bond strength to dentin. Twenty human teeth were used for each adhesive. Bonding sites were prepared in dentin (600 grit) and the adhesives applied according to the manufacturers' instructions. Bond strengths were determined with an Instron testing machine at 24 hours. The adequate and early replacement of soft tissue in the lower leg is equivalent to the management of bone and prevention of osteomyelitis. The acute or delayed primary management of soft tissue loss with early flap coverage prevents infections. In the treatment of osteomyelitis, flap coverage provides the necessary blood supply for healing. In the first stage we remove bone until bleeding indicates viable tissue, gentamycin-PMMA-chains are introduced before flap coverage. In the second stage, if necessary, we substitute the gentamycin-PMMA-chains with bone graft.

The capillary networks of normal and irradiated abdominal organs of mouse were investigated by a resin cast technique. The structure of the capillary system had characteristic appearances. Radiation effects on the fine vascular structures were demonstrated from one appearances. Radiation effects on the fine vascular structures were demonstrated from one to 30 days after a single dose of 5 to 30 Gy whole body irradiation. Prominent morphologic abnormalities of the shape and distribution of the capillaries were identified, especially in the small intestine.
