Impact of Micronutrients on Hypertension: Evidence from Clinical Trials with a Special Focus on Meta-Analysis.

Hypertension (HT) is one of the pivotal risk factors for various detrimental diseases like cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), cerebrovascular disease, and renal dysfunction. Currently, many researchers are paying immense attention to various diet formula (dietary approach) with a special focus on micro and macronutrients along with modified lifestyle and standard anti-hypertensive drugs. Micronutrients (minerals/vitamins) play a central role in the regulation of blood pressure (BP) as they aid the function of macronutrients and also improve the anti-hypertensive functions of some anti-hypertensiv…

Evaluating the Dietary Intakes of Energy, Macronutrients, Sugar, Fiber, and Micronutrients in Children With Celiac Disease.

OBJECTIVES: Children with celiac disease (CD) follow a lifelong gluten-free diet. This restrictive diet may be associated with nutritional compromise. Our objectives were, therefore, to evaluate the dietary composition (energy, macronutrients and micronutrients, and fiber) in children with CD compared with healthy controls (HC) and relationship between dietary composition and socioeconomic status. METHODS: This cross-sectional, case-control study recruited children with CD ages 2 to 18 years and HC matched for age, sex, and socioeconomic status. Clinical, sociodemographic, and dietary informa…

Micronutrients and sickle cell disease, effects on growth, infection and vaso-occlusive crisis: a systematic review.

Patients with Sickle cell disease (SCD) exhibit signs of poor growth, increased susceptibility to infection and recurrent episodes of painful vaso-occlusive crises. Micronutrient deficiencies may increase susceptibility to these outcomes. We conducted a systematic review to assess the strength of evidence for improved outcomes related to micronutrient interventions. Six randomized-controlled trials of moderate quality met the inclusion criteria. Zinc supplementation was associated with improved growth and decreased incidence of infection and is a promising intervention in the management of SCD
