The cytologic, histologic, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural characteristics are presented of a case of hyaline-cell pleomorphic adenoma of the soft palate diagnosed by aspiration biopsy. Hyaline cells are commonly found in pleomorphic adenomas of minor salivary gland origin. The lack of cohesiveness of the hyaline cells makes them readily amenable to sampling by fine needle aspiration biopsy. When identified in a neoplasm, these cells are characteristic, and probably diagnostic, of a mixed tumor.

BACKGROUND: Histological evaluation of testicular tissue is central to the assessment of infertile men, particularly those at an increased risk of testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT). Traditionally, testicular biopsies have been used primarily for diagnostic purposes, such as the detection of germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS). Epithelial ovarian neoplasms are commonly observed in older patients, while germ cell tumors (GCTs) typically present in young individuals. When GCTs are detected in patients over 35 yrs old, they often have an associated epithelial component, a phenomenon known as somatically derived GCTs. METHODS: Between 2011 and 2021, testicular cancer survivors (TCS) at our clinic completed a questionnaire, including EORTC QLQ-TC26, covering sperm cryopreservation, sociodemographic details, post-treatment births, and artificial insemination.

A 19-year-old male presented to the emergency department with a 7-day history of melena, anorexia and asthenia. Blood tests revealed a hemoglobin of 5.8 g/dL. Upper endoscopy showed a large ulcerated and stenosing lesion in the duodenum. The histologic examination of the biopsy specimen showed a neoplasia with epithelioid cells, accentuated atypia and pleomorphism, expressing MNF 116 cytokeratin, CD30, glypican 3 and alpha-fetoprotein on immunohistochemistry, suggesting of a germ cell tumor metastasis.

Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are associated with pure gonadal dysgenesis or Swyer syndrome. Swyer syndrome usually presents with primary amenorrhea, streak ovaries, and mixed GCT. INTRODUCTION: Central nervous system germ cell tumors need to be adequately diagnosed because their treatment is usually effective and they do not always require surgery.
