Decreasing Ambulatory Antibiotic Treatment Duration for Acute Otitis Media and Community-Acquired Pneumonia.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Despite evidence supporting short treatment duration for acute otitis media and community-acquired pneumonia, many patients receive longer courses. The aim was to increase the proportion of short duration antibiotic therapy from 40% to 80% within 9 months in primary care, emergency department, and urgent care settings spanning three states. METHODS: This quality improvement initiative was conducted from June 2022 to March 2025. Interventions were implemented through seven plan-do-study-act cycles, including creation of a clinical pathway and electronic health record

AIM/OBJECTIVE: To identify educational interventions for healthcare professionals caring for 2SLGBTQ + older adults and describe their content, outcomes, and limitations. BACKGROUND: 2SLGBTQ + older adults experience health inequities shaped by lifelong stigma, discrimination, heteronormativity, cisnormativity, and mistreatment in healthcare. Although educational interventions support healthcare professionals caring for 2SLGBTQ + people, less is known about interventions specific to 2SLGBTQ + older adults. DESIGN: A scoping review guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute method and reported in

The impact of job stress on job performance among college interns: the mediating roles of psychological contract and perceived organizational support, and the moderating role of physical and mental health.

OBJECTIVE: College student interns frequently experience transitional stress as they navigate the shift from campus life to internship environments. Coping strategies for this transition have garnered attention within the field of organizational behavior. However, the current literature remains insufficient in examining the contingency mechanisms of internal psychological resources and external organizational support. Grounded in the Conservation of Resources Theory, this study aims to construct and test a moderated parallel dual-mediation model to elucidate how Physical and mental health (PMH

The effect of perceived organizational support on safety compliance in Libyan public hospitals: a cross-sectional study of the mediating role of proactive personality.

BACKGROUND: Perceived organizational support (POS) reflects employees' beliefs that their organization values their contributions and cares about their well-being. Although POS has been linked to desirable workplace outcomes, less is known about the psychological processes through which it is associated with safety compliance behavior among healthcare employees, particularly in under-examined developing-country contexts. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate proactive personality as an individual-level mechanism underlying the association between POS and safety compliance behavior in healthc

Cognitive behavioural therapy group work with voice hearers. Part 1.

This study presents a small, randomised control trial of cognitive behavioural interventions within a group setting for the treatment of auditory hallucinations. In a sample of 20 voice hearers, 10 were randomly allocated to an eight-session cognitive behavioural therapy group, and 10 underwent psychiatric 'treatment as usual'. Baseline assessments were undertaken. Measures of control, power, frequency and symptoms of distress and anxiety, were recorded on assessment and on completion of the group. The groups achieved a significant reduction in frequency of auditory hallucinations and in the b

[GESNOMA (Geneva Study Group on Noma): state-of-the-art medical research for humanitarian purposes].

Noma is a devastating gangrenous disease that leads to severe tissue destructions in the face. It is seen almost exclusively in children living in less developed countries. The exact prevalence of the disease is unknown and the cause remains unknown too. Risk factors are: malnutrition, a compromised immune system, poor oral hygiene and a lesion of the gingival mucosal barrier, as well as an unidentified bacterial factor. Herpes viruses might also contribute. Studies of the buccal flora in acute phases of noma and comparison with control children do not exist. Our study takes place in Niger. Fo

Needle-exchange participation, effectiveness, and policy: syringe relay, gender, and the paradox of public health.

Needle-exchange programs (NEPs) have been politically controversial, and most studies have focused on evaluating their effectiveness on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission rates with little emphasis on the process of how they are used. This article shows that the way intravenous drug users use NEPs may influence their effectiveness. Using data from Baltimore's NEP, participants (N = 2,574) were classified as low, medium, and high users based on the volume, frequency, and duration of contact with the NEP. Higher NEP use was associated with shorter syringe circulation times and less

Return to School After Traumatic Brain Injury: Description of Implementation Settings.

OBJECTIVE: Children who experience traumatic brain injury (TBI) of any severity may need accommodations when they return to school-the setting that manages academic achievement and learning. However, variations exist in current return to school (RTS) programs that address a child's transition to school following TBI. This article describes some of these return to school (RTS) programs and how they vary by setting. DESIGN: This article provides insights from a modified evaluability assessment that examined RTS programs and their readiness for rigorous evaluation. A secondary analysis was condu

Barriers to integrating the continuum of care for opioid and alcohol use disorders in primary care: A qualitative longitudinal study.

Untreated substance use disorders remain a pervasive public health problem in the United States, especially among medically-underserved and low-income populations, with opioid and alcohol use disorders (OAUD) being of particular concern. Primary care is an underutilized resource for delivering treatment for OAUD, but little is known about the organizational capacity of community-based primary care clinics to integrate treatment for OAUD. The objective of this study was to use an organizational capacity framework to examine perceived barriers to implementing the continuum of care for OAUD in a
