The cases with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris associated with lesions in sterno-cost clavicular region, spine and ilio sacral joint have been in the previous literatures. We encountered four rare cases of this pustulosis in association with femoral lesion. We mainly reported their radiological and pathologic findings. Three cases had lesions in the diaphysis of the femur, while one case had lesion in the lesser trochanter. The average age was 55.5 years (range 53-60) All patients complained of thigh pain. Three cases suffered sterno cost clavicular pain also. Laboratory data showed the eleva

A case of melorheostosis with osteopoikilosis and linear scleroderma is reported. The authors emphasize the rarity of the disease, the complexity of the therapeutic approach to the patient.

One 51 years old man was admitted to the rheumatology department with a history of prominent eyes, headache and blurred vision for half year. The main manifestations included retrobulbar inflammatory pseudotumor and retroperitoneal fibrosis. He was initially diagnosed as granulomatosis with polyangiitis. Prednisone and cyclophosphamide were administrated and effective. New mass of dura mater and osteosclerosis presented during follow up. Finally Erdheim Chester disease(ECD) was diagnosed by biopsy and pathological examination. Vemurafenib, a v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogenes homolog B1 (BRA…

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare, non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis. It is characterized by osteosclerosis of the metaphyseal regions of long bones and several extraskeletal manifestations. Clinically, it ranges from an asymptomatic focal process to systemic disease with life-threatening visceral involvement. Until now, only two cases of Erdheim-Chester disease with paraparesis have been reported. Herein we report the first case of Erdheim-Chester disease with the clinical manifestation of paraplegia. Our patient also had diabetes insipidus, pleural and pericardial effusion, retro-orbit…

Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) plays a crucial role in renal phosphate regulation, exemplified by the causal role of PHEX and DMP1 muta … F23 levels, hypophosphatemia, hyperphosphaturia, dental anomalies, intracerebral calcifications and osteosclerosis of the long bones in the absence of rickets.

We report a 2-year-old boy who presented with marked hypotonia and was dependent on artificial ventilation since birth. He was diagnosed with nemaline (actin) myopathy, based on the cytoplasmic accumulation of thin filament aggregates and marked myofibrillar dysgenesis. Intranuclear rods and dispersed tiny nemaline bodies were also observed. The patient was shown to be heterozygous for a de novo mutation, c.430C>T (p.Leu144Phe), in the alpha-actin (ACTA1) gene. He also showed orbital osteosclerosis, longitudinal striations of the iliac bones, hepatomegaly, undescended testis, a unilateral vesi…

The bone disease associated with chronic renal impairment is complex and multifactorial, and has changed over past decades. Whereas originally features of vitamin D deficiency (rickets/osteomalacia) and secondary hyperparathroidism (erosions, osteosclerosis, brown cysts) predominated, improvement in management and therapy have resulted in such readiographic features being present in a minority of patients. Metastatic calcification and "adynamic" bone develop as a complication of disease (phosphate retention) and treatment (phosphate binders). New complications (amyloid deposition, noninfective…

Worth syndrome, also known as autosomal dominant osteosclerosis and high bone mineral density, is a rare disease caused by a gain-of-function mutation of the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) gene leading to endosteal hyperostosis. It is characterized by increased bone density and benign bony structures on the palate, known as torus palatinus. The skeleton is normal in childhood, but facial metamorphoses occur in adolescence, as the mandible becomes elongated and the forehead flattens. Torus palatinus can lead to loss of teeth or malocclusion. We present the case of an …

Osteosclerosing myeloma is a specific form of multiple myeloma. We present a case of a 63-year-old woman who was found to have anemia during … ing, reflecting very low activity. This case highlights the critical value of the image findings of osteosclerosis myeloma and promotes awareness of this highly unusual but unique form of the disease.

Gardner syndrome has head and neck manifestations that may be recognized during dental visits. Features such as multiple gnathic osteomas, impacted supernumerary teeth, and multiple foci of idiopathic osteosclerosis can be easily identified on dental radiographs, prompting the clinician to refer the patient for further investigation. A dental examination and routine radiographs play a vital role in revealing the extracolonic presentation of Gardner syndrome, which facilitates timely screening and detection of colorectal cancer and other malignancies associated with this condition. This report …

Renal osteodystrophy has many skeletal pathologic features, eg, fibroosteoclasia (osteitis fibrosa), osteomalacia, osteopenia, pseudofracture, cyst formation, and osteosclerosis. Many of these are caused by the secondary hyperparathyroidism that usually accompanies renal failure. Derangements in parathyroid hormone secretion, calcium and phosphate metabolism, and renal production of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (the most active form of vitamin D) are all interrelated and pathogenetic features of renal osteodystrophy. Types of abnormalities detected radiologically vary with patient age, type o…

Roentgen studies in a group of 131 patients on maintenance hemodialysis reveal renal osteodystrophy in 25 patients (19 per cent). In 24 patients of the latter group (98 per cent), the various manifestations of renal osteodystrophy appear in the bony pelvis. These include: osteomalacia; osteitis fibrosa; osteosclerosis; dialysis osteopenia; and extraosseous calcifications. Some of the changes, i.e., bending of bone, Looser's lines, metaphyseal fractures and dialysis osteopenia, are due, at least in part, to the weight bearing nature of the bony pelvis. These findings are ararely, if ever, seen …

Leukocytosis, mild anemia, thrombocytosis, and panhyperplasia in the marrow characterize the early stages of most of the CMPD, whereas extramedullary hematopoiesis (such as in the spleen or liver), peripheral cytopenias (anemia, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia), and myelofibrosis, with or without osteosclerosis, reflect the changes seen in the later stages. Transitions among the different CMPD and termination in acute leukemia or marrow failure also are common. CML often is characterized by leukocytosis and the presence of the entire spectrum of granulocytes (mature and immature) in the blood …
