Ginseng-associated cerebral arteritis.

We report a 28-year-old woman who had a severe headache after ingesting a large quantity of ethanol-extracted ginseng. Cerebral angiograms showed "beading" appearance in the anterior and posterior cerebral and superior cerebellar arteries, consistent with cerebral arteritis. The close temporal association between intake of ginseng and cerebral arteries suggests a causal relationship.

Configurational Isomer Differentiation Between 20(S)- and 20(R)-Ginsenosides in Red Ginseng via Applying [CuII(l-Phe)2-H]+ to Post-Column Infusion LC-MS/MS.

INTRODUCTION: 20(R)-ginsenosides are formed by Walden inversion during ginseng processing and usually exhibit almost identical MS/MS behaviors, yet display distinct pharmacological activities compared with 20(S)-configurational isomers. It is thereby crucial for isomer differentiation to facilitate quality control. OBJECTIVE: To pursue a program enabling 20(R)- and 20(S)-ginsenosides discrimination in complicated matrices using MS/MS, red ginseng, the processed form of ginseng, was deployed as a representative. METHODS: Five pairs of ginsenoside epimers were collected for method development.

Research Progress on the Mechanism of Ginsenosides in the Treatment of Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system with a complex pathogenesis. Current conventional medicines are predominantly symptomatic treatments, which fail to reverse neuronal degeneration and often induce severe motor complications following long-term administration. In this context, the advantages of the multi-target holistic regulation provided by traditional Chinese medicine have become increasingly prominent. As the core active ingredients of Panax ginseng, ginsenosides can penetrate the blood-brain barrier and exhibit broad neuroprotective pros…

Research progress on the role of ginsenoside Rd in central nervous system diseases.

Ginsenoside Rd (GSRd) is one of the rare saponin monomers extracted from ginseng. Most importantly, GSRd could effectively cross the intact blood-brain barrier (BBB). Studies have shown that it plays an important role in the treatment of neurological diseases such as ischemic stroke (IS), spinal cord injury (SCI), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). The results of these studies are of great significance for the clinical application of GSRd in the treatment in neurological diseases. This article reviewed the protective effects of GSRd in central nervous system diseases and an

Differential analysis of ginseng methanol extracts from different origins using FTIR and 2D-COS-IR spectroscopies.

The quality of ginseng extracts is largely determined by the ginsenosides present in them. However, the high similarity among such extracts poses a considerable challenge to the rapid differentiation of their origins, which is critical for ensuring product quality. In this study, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, second-derivative infrared (SD-IR) spectroscopy and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy coupled with infrared (2D-COS-IR) spectroscopy combined with chemometric methods (similarity analysis, dual-index sequence analysis, and principal component analysis) were applie
