There have been a few case reports and one small series of low grade papillary sinonasal (Schneiderian) carcinomas (LGPSC) which mimic papillomas but have overtly invasive growth and which occasionally metastasize. We describe the morphologic, clinical, immunohistochemical, and molecular features of five patients with LGPSC compared with eight cases each of inverted papilloma (IP) and conventional nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with papillary growth. All LGPSC were nested with predominantly pushing invasion, no stromal reaction, and frequent surface papillary growth. All consist

The aim of presented work is analysis of the inverted papilloma cases treated by endoscopic surgery between years 2006 and 2008. Within this period there were 180 surgeries, out of which 11 patients were diagnosed with papilloma inversum in the histopatological test of irradiated tissue. Symptoms reported by the patients, tumor loci, scope of the surgery and its efficiency are described and analyzed. The arguments supporting endoscopic surgery as a treatment modality for inverted papilloma are presented.

Inverted papilloma is a benign sinonasal tumor characterized by local aggressiveness, a high recurrence rate, and potential malignant transformation. This report presents a case of inverted papilloma originating in the maxillary sinus, successfully treated using a fully endoscopic surgical approach with en bloc resection. This case demonstrates the safety and efficacy of endoscopic techniques for managing maxillary sinus inverted papilloma while preserving the nasolacrimal duct; it also highlights the importance of meticulous surgical planning, intraoperative precision, and long-term follow-up

AIMS: To investigate relative telomere length in inverted urothelial neoplasms, including inverted papilloma and urothelial carcinoma with an inverted growth pattern. Telomere shortening has been implicated as an early event in the development of epithelial malignancies in a number of organ systems.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 77 cases were studied, including 26 cases of inverted papilloma, 26 urothelial carcinomas with inverted growth, and 25 cases of cystitis glandularis. Quantitative fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) was performed on

We describe a case of benign inverted papilloma with intracranial extension treated with endoscopic resection combined with craniotomy. Intracranial involvement of inverted papilloma, in the absence of malignancy, is uncommon. We present an analysis of the literature identifying the characteristics and outcomes of benign intracranial inverted papilloma. PubMed database was searched using keywords intracranial, inverted or inverting, and papilloma. There are 17 reports of benign inverted papilloma with intracranial extension reported with a mean age of 49.2 years (range, 23 to 92 years), a fema

OBJECTIVE: To study sinonasal papilloma patients in terms of clinical characteristics, treatment, outcome, and complications.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective descriptive study was done. Sinonasalpapilloma data were gathered between 1999 and 2009. There were 63 available patients from the 82 cases.
RESULTS: There were nine cases of nasal papilloma (14.3%) and 54 of inverted papilloma (85.7%). The mean age of the inverted papilloma group was higher than the nasal papilloma group (54 +/- 12.97 years vs. 42.4 +/- 24.8 years). The most common symptom was unilateral nasal obstruction. There w

The histogenesis of benign mucosal tumors of the nose and paranasal sinuses is reviewed in this report. In contradistinction to the view favored in the literature, these comprise three distinct entities. Everted and cylindric cell papillomas are true papillomas, lined by stratified squamous and microcyst-laden, columnar, and oncocytic epithelium, respectively. Inverted papillomas are polyps with marked, patchy squamous metaplasia in ductal and surface epithelium and numerous microcysts containing macrophages in those epithelia. Low-grade squamous carcinoma of the nose and paranasal sinuses may

OBJECTIVE: To assess the value of endonasal sinus surgery in the management of sinonasal papillomas.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study including 43 patients operated on for sinonasal papilloma in a long-term follow-up.
METHODS: In 26 cases (60%) an endonasal approach, in eight cases (19%) an external approach, and in four cases (9%) a combined procedure was performed to remove these tumors. Five septal lesions (12%) were resected under direct vision. The original sections and charts of all patients were reviewed to assess clinical data. Follow-up information was available for 42 of our patie

OBJECTIVE: We report a rare case of sinonasal hybrid tumour within an inverted papilloma.
METHOD: The patient's case history and course of management are presented. The relevant medical literature are reviewed and discussed.
RESULTS: A 60-year-old man presented with unilateral nasal obstruction associated with anosmia. An ENT examination revealed a unilateral, left nasal mass. A provisional diagnosis of inverted papilloma was made. The patient underwent a transnasal endoscopic excision of the tumour, which was unfortunately complicated by a cerebrospinal fluid leak. Further treatment of this

A 31-year-old Black man presented with two oval masses in his right conjunctiva. The tumors were completely excised and histology showed that the inferior lesion was a conjunctival squamous papilloma with pigmentation while the superior one was an inverted conjunctival papilloma, which grew in an endophytic manner. Follow up examination one year later showed no recurrence. Literature search revealed no previous report of simultaneous appearance of these types of papilloma in the same eye. Management of conjunctival squamous papillomas is difficult and is complicated by multiple recurrences in

We report on the metachronic appearance of an inverted papilloma in the ipsilateral middle ear after resection of an endonasal inverted papilloma and its malignant transformation. After multiple surgical interventions and adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy, there was recurrence with intracerebral growth, which ultimately led to the patient's death 3 years after the initial presentation.

A 69-year-old male complained of gross hematuria. Cystoscopy revealed a papillary pedunculated tumor. The tumor was approximately 4 cm in length, and mimicked an inverted papilloma with a small stalk and smooth surface, located on the bladder trigone. Transurethral resection of the bladder tumor was performed, and the tumor was resected en bloc. Histopathological examination revealed thick and irregular epithelial cords. Immunohistochemically, Ki-67 labeling index was 5%, p40 and CK7 were positive, and CK20 was negative. Then, this tumor was diagnosed as inverted variant of urothelial carcinom

Inverted lesions in the urinary bladder have been the source of some difficulty in urological pathology. The two common ones are von Brunn's … these lesions, and the pathologic grading of the non-invasive inverted neoplasms, such as inverted papilloma, inverted PUNLMP, non-invasive inverted papillary urothelial carcinoma with low-grade, and non-invasive inverted papillary urothelial carcinoma with high-grade.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is an unusual inherited intestinal polyposis syndrome associated with distinct mucocutaneous pigmentation. Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is known to show variable penetrance and clinical heterogeneity. It can involve various organs and lead to intestinal and extra-intestinal malignancies. Sinonasal inverted papilloma is a benign tumor originating from the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It is characterized by high recurrence and malignant transformation; however, the exact pathogenesis and risk factors remain unclear. Recently, we encountered a case of sinonasal inverted pa

We reported a case of inverted papilloma of the bladder, and six cases (two of ureteral cancer and four of bladder cancer) of transitional cell carcinoma with inverted proliferation. These tumors were superficial and pedunculated as well as transitional papilloma or ordinary papillary transitional cell carcinoma though they showed a non-papillary and polyp-like configuration. Moreover, these urothelial cancers with inverted proliferation were thought to be similar to papillary cancer with regard to grading, multiplicity, invasiveness and recurrence. Therefore, transurethral resection or segmen

PURPOSE: The distance between the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus and the nasolacrimal duct has been classified into three types by Simmen, in which type I (< 3 mm) is the least feasible for a prelacrimal approach. The aim of our study is to present a surgical technique which overcomes the anatomical limitation of the narrow lacrimal recess (type I) in the management of inverted papilloma in the maxillary sinus.
METHODS: Case series.
RESULTS: Eight patients with type I lacrimal recess underwent surgical resection for inverted papilloma in the maxillary sinus via a prelacrimal approach.
