Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the parotid gland is a relatively rare neoplasm, accounting for 10-15 % of all salivary gland tumors. Metastasis to the uveal region, particularly to the ciliary body and iris, is extremely uncommon, with the first case reported in 2011. This case report describes a 32-year-old woman with a history of ACC of the parotid gland. Despite radical surgery, radiotherapy, and facial nerve reconstruction, the patient developed metastasis to the ciliary body and iris one year after treatment. Ultrasonography revealed a solid iridociliary mass, and radiotherapy was admi

OBJECTIVE: Salivary gland neoplasms are rare in pediatric and adolescent populations. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands that most frequently arises in the parotid gland as a painless swelling. Herein we present a rare case of MEC in a child with metastasis to the cervical lymph node as primary presentation.
CASE REPORT: A nine-year-old female without significant past medical history presented with a neck mass behind the ear for two months. Imaging study showed a heterogeneous soft tissue mass with a radiologic impression of a suppurati

Sclerosing polycystic adenosis (SPA) is a rare benign neoplasm of the salivary gland which resembles the fibrocystic disease of the breast clinically as well as morphologically. This entity has varied morphological presentation on fine needle aspiration. Only a few case reports and occasional case series are found in the literature describing its cytology. Here we are presenting a case of SPA in the parotid gland in a 13-year-old male patient who presented with a slow growing infra-auricular mass since one year without any other symptoms. Radiological investigation suggested a possibility of m

Extraosseous osteosarcoma is a rare malignant soft tissue neoplasm, and extraosseous osteosarcoma of the parotid gland is very rare. It has a very aggressive course, and there are no standardized treatment guidelines. We report the case of a 20 year old male patient who presented with history of right neck swelling since 6 years for which he had undergone right parotid surgery 5 years ago. The final histopathological report indicated that the mass was a pleomorphic adenoma. One year after the first surgery, the patient experienced recurrence of swelling over the operated site, and the size of

This case report discusses a presentation of a giant facial teratoma, a rare congenital neoplasm. Head and neck locations of the tumour uncommonly distort the face and may be associated with functional problems. We present a case of teratoma arising from the right parotid extending to the extracranial regions, successfully managed by surgical resection. Reviewing this case with the supporting body of literature anticipates further investigation to address patients' needs more thoroughly.

AIM: Parotid gland is the most common location for salivary gland tumors, more commonly pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin's tumor. Types of parotid surgery include superficial parotidectomy (SP), partial superficial parotidectomy (PSP), total conservative parotidectomy (TCP), enucleation (E), extracapsular dissection (ECD), and are related to different incidence of complications. The choice depends on tumors localization, dimension and histology. The aim was to compare complications rate such as facial and great auricular nerve impairment and Frey syndrome according to type of surgery performed.

Malignant melanoma is a well-known diagnostic pitfall, given its propensity to metastasize to different sites and mimic various entities. In this report, we present a fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) of a metastatic melanoma with basaloid features that is occurring in the preauricular/parotid area. The patient is a 17-year-old male with a history of excision of melanoma of the left temple, and was undergoing adjuvant treatment with nivolumab. The prior excision was positive for S100, HMB-45, melan-A, and tyrosinase. On follow-up, he presented with non-FDG avid left preauricular area lesions

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is a minimally invasive technique able to identify lymphoma accompanying Sjögren syndrome, neoplasms or infiltrative diseases, with less complications compared to open biopsy. With these images, we aim to describe the ultrasound-guided core biopsy procedure, in a female patient with rheumatoid arthritis who presented evident inhomogeneity of the parotid gland. The procedure was performed by rheumatologists, trained in ultrasonography of the salivary glands, demonstrating that ultrasound-guided core biopsy is an easy and safe method to obtain salivary gland tissue.

BACKGROUND: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant salivary gland tumour in paediatric population, accounting for 16% of all cases. Patients affected by a previous solid or leukaemic neoplasm during their childhood may develop a second different tumour during the follow-up. In this setting, salivary gland MEC is relatively frequent, accounting for 6% of the second neoplasms in paediatric patients. Consequently, the occurrence of salivary gland nodules in paediatric patients with a previous neoplasm should be considered an event with a high risk of malignancy that poses pec

Pleomorphic adenoma, also known as mixed tumor, is a benign tumor which typically presents as a painless and persistent mass. The majority of pleomorphic adenomas involve the salivary glands, most commonly the parotid gland. Other sites include breast and skin. It is a rare tumor in the vulva. In this article we are reporting a case of pleomorphic adenoma of labia with characteristic pathologic and clinical findings, as reminder of a common benign neoplasm occurring with rare locality.

Pleomorphic adenoma, also known as tumor mixtus, is one of the most common types of benign neoplasm of the salivary gland, which presents as a slow growing, painless tumor. Major salivary glands are the typical localization of this neoplasm. It rarely undergoes malignant transformation, however may recur locally post resection. In this study, we present the results of a retrospective analysis of 104 patients treated at the Clinical Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinic of Otolaryngology and Laryngologic Oncology of the Military Institute of Medicine between 2004 and 2015 due to pl

BACKGROUND: Malignant pilomatrixoma (also known as pilomatrix carcinoma) is a very rare malignant neoplasm derived from the hair matrix. These slow-growing malignancies of the skin are found in the lower dermis and subcutaneous fat layer. They can exhibit local aggressive behavior or distant metastasis. This malignancy can arise as a solitary lesion de novo or through transformation of a pilomatrixoma over a long period. There is no known distinct etiologic factor or predisposing condition for this kind of malignancy.
OBJECTIVE AND CONCLUSION: We present an interesting case of a 65-year-old m

Papillary cystadenocarcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands. This tumor most commonly arises in the major salivary glands, mainly in the parotid gland, and rarely metastasizes to regional lymph nodes. We report here a case of papillary cystadenocarcinoma originating from a minor salivary gland, localized in the lateral portion of the tongue and with neck metastases, in a 57-year old woman. We discuss histopathologic and clinical features of this lesion and review the literature.

Sialolipoma of the parotid gland is an uncommon benign neoplasm of the salivary glands, characterized histologically by the presence of mature adipose tissue intermixed with non-neoplastic salivary gland components, and sometimes featuring oncocytic or reactive alterations. The clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical characteristics of this condition, coupled with its similarity to various other parotid lesions in differential diagnosis, underline the necessity for accurate identification, with treatment typically involving parotidectomy, usually superficial, and aimed at preservi
