Clinical Acceptability Of Trimetazidine Modified-Release 80 mg Once Daily Versus Trimetazidine Modified-Release 35 mg Twice Daily In Stable Angina Pectoris.

INTRODUCTION: Trimetazidine (TMZ) is an anti-ischemic metabolic agent that has been shown to be efficacious in angina treatment, both in monotherapy and in combination. A new formulation of TMZ modified-release (MR) 80 mg was developed, which is to be taken once daily (od), instead of twice daily (bid) for the currently available TMZ MR 35 mg, with the aim of simplifying the medication regimen. METHODS: The present study was an international, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group phase III study with a 12-week treatment period. The safety of TMZ MR 80 mg once daily was assesse

Latest Clinical Approaches in the Ocular Management of Cystinosis: A Review of Current Practice and Opinion from the Ophthalmology Cystinosis Forum.

Cystinosis, a rare autosomal recessive disease caused by intracellular cystine accumulation, occurs in an estimated 1/100,000-200,000 live births. Ocular non-nephropathic cystinosis is typically diagnosed during adulthood, when patients present with corneal crystal deposition and no systemic involvement. Due to the rarity of the condition, diagnosis is often delayed and can have a significant impact on the overall prognosis of the disease. Early diagnosis is therefore imperative to ensure successful treatment and improve quality of life, as most of its clinical manifestations can be prevented

Antipsychotic-Related Movement Disorders: Drug-Induced Parkinsonism vs. Tardive Dyskinesia-Key Differences in Pathophysiology and Clinical Management.

INTRODUCTION: Drug-induced parkinsonism (DIP) and tardive dyskinesia (TD) are stigmatizing movement disorders associated with exposure to dopamine receptor blocking agents such as antipsychotics, but they differ in their pathophysiology and clinical management. Treatment for one may worsen the other, and there are important diagnostic clues that assist in making an accurate assessment and instituting a rational treatment plan. METHODS: A literature review was executed to identify articles relating to the presentation, pathophysiology, epidemiology, and management of DIP and TD. RESULTS: DIP

Automated analysis of postictal generalized electroencephalogram suppression for SUDEP risk stratification.

Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) affects more than 3000 individuals annually, yet objective and scalable biomarkers to assess risk remain limited. Postictal generalized electroencephalogram suppression (PGES) has been proposed as a potential biomarker, but its quantification is often subjective and variable. Here, we developed and validated an automated Cumulative Sum (CuSUM)-based algorithm to objectively quantify PGES duration in traumatic brain injury (TBI) mouse models of epilepsy. The algorithm was tested across three cohorts: 1  mm TBI, 2  mm TBI, and 2  mm TBI with H

Gingival odontogenic keratocyst presenting as pseudoinfection: Inclusion of demonstrative case report and review.

BACKGROUND: The peripheral odontogenic keratocyst (POKC) is a rare developmental odontogenic cyst and represents the soft tissue counterpart of the more common intraosseous variant. Although the majority of POKCs have been discovered on the gingiva, scant information is available in the periodontal literature. METHODS: A 69-year-old man presented with a painless, red fluctuant-like papular lesion on the maxillary anterior labial gingiva. The adjacent teeth had vital pulpal responses and normal gingival probing depths. A subtle radiolucency with corticated borders was evident overlying the api

Continuity of care in Klinefelter syndrome: age-adapted modules for standardized clinical data collection (I-KS).

ABSTRACT: Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is an underdiagnosed condition, affecting approximately 1 in 600 male births. Despite its relatively high prevalence, more than two-thirds of affected individuals remain undiagnosed, and clinical awareness is limited. KS presents with a highly variable phenotype, requiring lifelong, multidisciplinary care that spans pediatric and adult specialties. However, care is often fragmented, and there is no standardized approach to transitioning individuals from pediatric to adult healthcare services. Structured, longitudinal data collection is essential to better un

Hospital policy of tranexamic acid to reduce transfusion in major non-cardiac surgery (TRACTION): protocol for a phase IV randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an inexpensive and widely available medication that reduces blood loss and red blood cell (RBC) transfusion in cardiac and orthopaedic surgeries. While the use of TXA in these surgeries is routine, its efficacy and safety in other surgeries, including oncologic surgeries, with comparable rates of transfusion are uncertain. Our primary objective is to evaluate whether a hospital-level policy implementation of routine TXA use in patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery reduces RBC transfusion without increasing thrombotic risk. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A

Exploring ketogenic diet resistance in glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome: A comprehensive review and critical appraisal.

Glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1DS) commonly presents with early-onset epilepsy that often resists conventional pharmacological treatment. Ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) is the preferred approach to address the underlying metabolic anomaly. However, a subset of GLUT1DS patients presents resistance to KDT, with the causes remaining elusive. This comprehensive literature review aims to explore the characteristics of KDT failure in GLUT1DS and identify risk factors within this population. Our goal is to improve counseling and prognostication for these patients. So, we conducted
