Periods of hardship: a scoping review of menstrual health challenges among young people experiencing homelessness.

BACKGROUND: Millions of people worldwide lack resources to manage menstruation in a safe and dignified way. Period poverty in high-income countries affects vulnerable populations, including young people experiencing homelessness. This leads to poor menstrual health and negatively affects physical, psychological, and social wellbeing. This review examines the available evidence on menstrual health among people experiencing homelessness to inform understanding of the menstrual health challenges faced by young people experiencing homelessness. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted in accordanc

CARDIO4Cities: A roadmap for improving urban cardiovascular health.

This roadmap reviews CARDIO4Cities, a whole-of-city approach designed to reduce cardiovascular risk and disease at population level. As urbanization accelerates globally - with 68% of the global population projected to live in cities by 2050 - cities across income settings face a growing burden of cardiovascular disease, yet often lack operational models that translate evidence into scalable action. CARDIO4Cities responds to this gap by combining a simple, standardized population-health framework with locally adaptable implementation pathways that can be embedded within existing city systems.

Interventions for the prevention and management of cardiometabolic multiple long-term conditions.

Multiple long-term conditions (MLTC or multimorbidity) are increasing in global prevalence and represent a growing burden for individuals and health-care systems. Grouping cardiometabolic MLTC can be justified because aetiological antecedents and risk factors are often shared, and similar therapeutic approaches can have positive effects on the prevention, treatment, and delayed progression of many of the constituent conditions. In this Series paper, we focus on interventions for the prevention and management of cardiometabolic MLTC, under the broad headings of population-level, individual-leve

Prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and the sexual behavior of elderly people presenting to health examination centers in Korea.

Sexually transmitted infections are diseases provoking a great social and economic burden as well as health-related problems, and with the aging of society and the extension of life expectancy sexually transmitted infections in the elderly have drawn more attention these days. For the management of sexually transmitted infections in this population, basic epidemiological data need to be established. In this study, 1,804 persons from the general population aged over 60 years visiting health examination centers were tested for syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, and interviewed about the pattern

The Impact of Quarantine and Physical Distancing Following COVID-19 on Mental Health: Study Protocol of a Multicentric Italian Population Trial.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its related containment measures-mainly physical distancing and isolation-are having detrimental consequences on the mental health of the general population worldwide. In particular, frustration, loneliness, and worries about the future are common reactions and represent well-known risk factors for several mental disorders, including anxiety, affective, and post-traumatic stress disorders. The vast majority of available studies have been conducted in China, where the pandemic started. Italy has been severely hit by the pandemic, and the socio-cultural context is compl

Randomised controlled interventions on physical activity, diet or their dual approach to better public health and the links to body mass index in 10-19 years: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Health behaviour serves as a pivotal domain for the control of current health crises that primarily develop in young people and affect the global population in excess. This study hypothesises that appropriately planned physical activity (PA) intervention for pupils performed in the secondary school setting and during compulsory school time results in healthier body weight management. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a protocol, and a PROSPERO trial registration (C

Individual and population level effects of partner notification for Chlamydia trachomatis.

Partner notification (PN or contact tracing) is an important aspect of treating bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as Chlamydia trachomatis. It facilitates the identification of new infected cases that can be treated through individual case management. PN also acts indirectly by limiting onward transmission in the general population. However, the impact of PN, both at the level of individuals and the population, remains unclear. Since it is difficult to study the effects of PN empirically, mathematical and computational models are useful tools for investigating its potentia

Application of close-kin mark-recapture to an American black bear population using harvest samples.

Close-kin mark-recapture (CKMR) offers a promising alternative to traditional mark-recapture methods for estimating wildlife population parameters. CKMR estimates demographic parameters by identifying genetic relationships between individuals, effectively "recapturing" parental genotypes through their offspring's genetic profiles. One key advantage of CKMR over traditional methods is the ability to estimate abundance without recapture, facilitating the use of lethally collected biological samples. Here, we present an application of CKMR to a terrestrial species using samples collected from har

Comprehensive evaluation on progressive development strategies in DENV surveillance and monitoring infection rate among vector population.

The elevated rise in dengue infection rate has been a health burden worldwide and it will continue to impact global health for years to come. Accumulated literature holds accountable the geographical expansion of the mosquito species transmitting the dengue virus DENV. The frequency of this viral disease outbreaks has increased rapidly in the recent years, owing to various geo-climatic and anthropological activities. Due to scarcity of any effective control measures, there has been a continuous traceable rise in mortality and morbidity rates. However, it has been reported that the spate of inc
