Comparative Analysis of Stress, Coping Strategies, and Psychological Flexibility Among Postgraduate Medical Students.

BACKGROUND: Postgraduate medical students face a unique combination of academic, clinical, and personal challenges that expose them to heightened psychological stress. Understanding how stress interacts with coping strategies, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and psychological flexibility is crucial for designing interventions that promote resilience and well-being. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among postgraduate medical trainees in a tertiary care institution in India. Participants completed validated tools including the Postgraduate Stressor Questionnaire (PSQ), Self

Efficacy of health ecology-based health education on early rehabilitation outcomes in stroke patients.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a leading global cause of disability and mortality in adults, and early rehabilitation is critical for improving patients' functional recovery and quality of life; however, conventional rehabilitation models often focus solely on medical interventions and overlook the impact of the patient's comprehensive ecological environment on recovery, making it necessary to explore more holistic intervention approaches. To investigate the efficacy of health ecology theory-based health education in early stroke rehabilitation and its impacts on neurological/motor/cognitive function,

Rehabilitation outcomes in traumatic brachial plexus Injury: Occupational therapy perspective.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury (TBPI) results in significant motor and sensory impairments, impacting daily function, employment, and psychological well-being. While surgical interventions aim to restore function, outcomes remain variable, necessitating comprehensive rehabilitation. Occupational Therapy (OT) plays a crucial role in optimizing upper limb function, addressing psychosocial concerns, and enhancing quality of life. However, limited research exists on its specific impact, particularly in the Indian context. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the functional outcom

Emotional literacy and levels of consciousness in bio-psycho-social-spiritual-ecological (5D) model of human experience.

The efficacy of emotion regulation, critical for psychological wellbeing and a transdiagnostic approach to treating mental health, is tightly related to a broader emotional literacy construct. Both concepts are inseparably intertwined with a conceptual framework of emotions, but a generally accepted theory is still missing. This article presents the circular emotional reaction (CER) model by Zoran Milivojevic as a comprehensive framework of emotion psychology and psychopathology that aligns with the latest scientific findings. It further elaborates on the framework by introducing the novel bio

Longitudinal Serial Mediation Relationship of Intolerance of Uncertainty, Irrational Happiness Beliefs and Mistake Rumination with Family Communication.

The family systems approach suggests that individuals' psychological processes are shaped within the framework of family interactions. Accordingly, the current study examines the long-term effects of intolerance of uncertainty, irrational happiness beliefs and mistake rumination on family communication within the scope of a semi-longitudinal model. The study analyzed the predictive power of intolerance of uncertainty on irrational happiness beliefs and mistake rumination and whether these variables play a mediating role in family communication. The study, which was conducted in two phases at f

Implications of perceived empowering motivational climate on athletes' goal-regulatory processes: A longitudinal analysis.

This study explores how athletes' perceptions of empowering climates can influence athletes' goal regulatory processes over the competitive season. The purpose of this research was to test, using a longitudinal design, the relationship between athletes' perceptions of an empowering climate, goal motives, and goal-directed effort. A total of 112 university athletes (M = 20.90; SD = 2.79) completed a multi-section questionnaire at two time points during the season. Changes in perceptions of an empowering motivational climate positively predicted changes in autonomous goal motives (but not contro

Interplay among patient empowerment and clinical and person-centered outcomes in type 2 diabetes. The BENCH-D study.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated empowerment in T2DM and identified its correlates. METHODS: A sample of individuals self-administered the Diabetes Empowerment Scale-Short Form (DES-SF) and other 9 validated instruments (person-centered outcomes). Correlates of DES-SF were identified through univariate and multivariate analyses. For person-centered outcomes, ORs express the likelihood of being in upper quartile of DES-SF (Q4) by 5 units of the scale. RESULTS: Overall, 2390 individuals were involved. Individuals in Q4 were younger, more often males, had higher levels of school education, lower HbA1c l

Empowered to Play: A Case Study Describing the Impact of Powered Mobility on the Exploratory Play of Disabled Children.

Exploratory play is one of the most vital ways in which children learn about their environment and develop. It is well documented that limited mobility restricts a child's ability to engage in their environment through exploratory play. In this study, a qualitative, collective case study design explored the impact of powered mobility on the exploratory play of two children with physical disabilities. Data were collected from the children, their parents and their siblings through participant observation and in-depth, informal interviews. This paper focuses on two themes: Opportunity to Play rev

Bullies and power: a look at the research.

Research indicates that bullying continues to plague schools, and school-based anti-bullying programs do little to take away the opportunities and power of the child who bullies. Research indicates methods to identify the child who bullies, and provides guidelines to change the bullying behaviors. Unfortunately, this information fails to result in changes in practice. Nomination of children who bully by their peers and the utilization of methods that remove the bully's power are promising interventions. Administrators, teachers, parents, nurses, and mental health providers need to be proactive

Stalking: terrorism at our doors--how social workers can help victims fight back.

Stalking is a dangerous and devastating crime that irrevocably changes the lives of victims but is frequently misunderstood and minimized. Victims report that their lives are never the same after they have been stalked. Stalking is prevalent and gender-neutral and occurs across all socioeconomic lines and in all clinical settings. The prevalence of stalking provides many opportunities for social workers to intervene, but first they must recognize and understand the problem. This article explains common misconceptions about stalking, contains a brief discussion of the types of stalking, the ele

Discourse analysis is a relative newcomer to the variety of qualitative research methodologies used in nursing and midwifery research in Aotearoa/New Zealand. This is the seventh article in a series based on interviews with nursing and midwifery researchers, designed to offer the beginning researcher a first-hand account of the experience of using particular methodologies. This article focuses on discourse analysis as interpreted by Debbie Payne (RGON, MA [Hons]) in interview. Debbie has recently finished her PhD thesis (submitted for examination) and is a Senior Lecturer at the Auckland Unive

Vector control at the household level: an analysis of its impact on women.

The home is the setting where many vector-borne diseases are transmitted. Strategies for their control consequently have to involve the active participation of householders. In this paper we propose that low rates of participation in control activities frequently are related to the negative impact they have on women's power and authority within the domestic domain. This can arise from intrusion into domestic space by male vector control personnel, reorganization of the domestic environment as part of control activities, and promulgation of the idea that disease originates from within the home.
