Music and well-being in carceral settings: a scoping review.

Well-being is defined as the multi-dimensional experience of positive emotions, as well as life satisfaction, autonomy, and purpose. This scoping review examines the impact of musical practices on the well-being of incarcerated individuals and uniquely contributes to the literature by focusing on the relationship between music and power in carceral settings and by expounding on the ways in which musical practices both facilitate and inhibit experiences of well-being. Our review contributes to this body of literature by proposing three distinct ways musical practices may affect well-being: (1)

Medically Induced Exacerbation of PTSD Following Lung Transplantation: A Case Series.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurs at double the rate in individuals undergoing lung transplantation, compared to the normal population. The psychological sequela of PTSD makes recovery more challenging and may result in poor medical and psychological outcomes. A series of three cases illustrate this presentation. In all cases, PTSD history and symptomatology was undisclosed prior to lung transplantation, despite robust psychological evaluation. All patients experienced traumatic delirium during the acute recovery phase from transplantation. Re-emergence and exacerbation of PTSD sympt

Methodological transitions in mental health research driven by machine learning.

Machine learning is increasingly reshaping psychological and mental health research by complementing traditional theory-driven approaches with data-driven predictive modelling. This encompasses three key transitions: from hypothesis-testing to pattern discovery; from controlled experimental settings to naturalistic and multidimensional data ecosystems; and from explanatory theoretical models to prediction-informed theory-building and clinical translation. Nevertheless, this methodological reorientation remains insufficiently synthesised. Our aim is to examine how machine learning is reshaping

Psychological Impact of Pulmonary Embolism: A Narrative Review.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a potentially life-threatening thromboembolic condition that demands urgent medical attention. While significant strides have been made in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of PE, its long-term psychological consequences remain underexplored. Death as attraction: the role of travel medicine and psychological travel health care in 'dark tourism'.

Still an evolving field in travel medicine, psychological travel health has not yet been linked to tourist products that may affect travellers' mental wellbeing. Dark tourism, the travel to sites linked to death, atrocities and suffering, is a product that, on the one hand, attracts people with a keen interest in death-related attractions and, on the other hand, may inflict psychological scars. Of particular concern are travellers with undiagnosed or diagnosed mental illness. This is the first article bringing travel medicine and dark tourism together. Understanding dark tourism is crucial to a

In youth and adulthood, type 1 diabetes is related to mild cognitive decrements as well as affective disorders, such as depression and anxiety. There is limited literature available that explores the inter

Conflict in the workplace: social workers as victims and perpetrators.

Conflict and violence in the workplace have emerged as a real but inadequately explored concern in the social work profession. The present study surveyed a national random sample of 1029 NASW members about their experiences with client violence and with physical and psychological assault in relationship to practice setting, age, gender, and experience. Although results cannot be generalized due to response bias in the sample, 62 percent of social workers in the study reported they had been victims of physical or psychological assault and 14 percent reported they had committed such an assault o

Using the Core Concepts of Childhood Trauma as a Foundation for Evidence-Based Trauma Therapy of Children and Adolescents.

The Core Concepts of Childhood Trauma and the curriculum devised to teach them, have been created by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. These are meant to provide a conceptual framework as clinicians and other professional approach children and adolescents exposed to traumatic events. The Core Concepts provide a background, not replace evidence-based therapies. In this paper we present the Core Concepts, in brief and in detail, and describe how they can be used in understanding a variety of situations. Training in the Core Concepts of Childhood Trauma curriculum is now widely availab

[Summarising the efficiency of psychological interventions in the treatment of endometriosis].

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease affecting 5-10% of women resulting in several psychological impacts. Regarding the high prevalence as well as extensive somatic symptoms, this has become a growing issue of psychological research in recent years. Thanks to its rising importance the negative effect on quality of life, mood, and anxiety symptoms has been proven. Thus we aimed to organize psychological interventions affecting the mentioned constructs and also examine their efficiency and scientific standards. Our inclusion criteria referred to studies based on randomized controlled

A relational approach to group therapy for women with bulimia nervosa: moving from understanding to action.

This article explains how the psychology of women can inform group treatment by translating relational theory (RT) into practice within a short-term outpatient bulimia group. First, the article provides a brief overview of a relational understanding of women's psychological development, the etiology and maintenance of bulimia nervosa, and group psychotherapy. Then, clinical vignettes illustrate the application of RT in practice through discussion of four main healing factors at work in the different stages of the group. Through promoting validation, self-empathy, mutuality, and empowerment, th
