King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) serum was found to possess antihemorrhagic activity against king cobra hemorrhagin. The activity was stronger than that in commercial king cobra antivenom. An antihemorrhagin has been purified by ion exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography and gel filtration with a 22-fold purification and an overall yield of 12% of the total antihemorrhagic activity contained in crude serum. Approximately 20% of 52 Japanese males with invasive amebiasis confirmed by gel diffusion precipitin test (GDP) were positive by both Treponema pallidum hemagglutination test (TPHA) and nontreponemal antigen tests, and an additional 20% were positive by TPHA alone. Blood-engorged Coquillettidia perturbans, Psorophora ferox, Culex, Culiseta, and Aedes mosquitoes were collected principally by sweep net from salt marsh and woodland habitats in Connecticut. Twenty-seven intestinal lymphoma patients were studied. Abnormal alpha-chain immunoglobulin was detected in the sera of seven of these patients. The alpha-chain disease patients were from the rural areas of Southern Iran. They were of low socio-economic status and their age ranged from 15-44 years. A case of pneumonia associated with acute CMV infection is reported. A 34 year-old man was admitted with fever (39 degrees C equals 102.2 degrees F), malaise and dyspnea.
