A novel biomimetic strategy for mimicking amelogenesis to repair enamel.

According to the principle of minimal invasiveness in modern dentistry, biomimetic remineralization therapy constitutes a significant strategy for the prevention and treatment of early enamel caries. Based on the three "key events" of amelogenesis in vivo, silk fibroin (SF) combined with carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) successfully formed an SF/CMC composite, and amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) was then used to form an SF/CMC-ACP nanocomposite with remineralization properties. In our study, SF was used as a template protein for biomimetic amelogenin, ACP was stabilized with CMC and the reminera

Remineralization of demineralized enamel by toothpastes: a scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and three-dimensional stereo-micrographic study.

Remineralization of hard dental tissues is thought to be a tool that could close the gap between prevention and surgical procedures in clinical dentistry. The purpose of this study was to examine the remineralizing potential of different toothpaste formulations: toothpastes containing bioactive glass, hydroxyapatite, or strontium acetate with fluoride, when applied to demineralized enamel. Results obtained by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and SEM/energy dispersive X-ray analyses proved that the hydroxyapatite and bioactive glass-containing toothpastes were highly efficient in promoting en

An unusual pattern of self-inflicted injury after dental local anesthesia: a report of 2 cases.

The local anesthetics used in dentistry are considered very safe and have a low incidence of adverse reactions associated with their administration. A frequent finding by clinicians engaged in treatment of children is, following a dental appointment requiring local anesthesia to treat dental disease, a child may bite his or her lip out of curiosity associated with the unfamiliar sensation of being numb or inadvertently because no pain is felt. We describe two unusual case reports of postanesthetic self-inflicted injuries in this article. The first being the ulceration due to lip biting and the

Natural Strategies for Dental Hard-Tissue Remineralization: A Scoping Review of Galla Chinensis and Its Dual Anticaries Action.

Dental caries remains a global public health challenge, traditionally managed through fluoride-based strategies that enhance enamel remineralization and inhibit demineralization. However, concerns regarding fluoride resistance, fluorosis, and the growing demand for minimally invasive alternatives have stimulated interest in bioactive, plant-derived compounds. Galla chinensis extract (GCE), rich in polyphenols and tannins, has emerged as a promising candidate with dual effects on hard tissue repair and microbial control. This scoping review aimed to assess the evidence on Galla chinensis extrac

2025 FelineVMA feline oral health and dental care guidelines.

Oral and dental diseases are commonplace in cats, imposing a responsibility on primary care veterinarians to provide high quality oral healthcare for their feline patients. While patient assessment begins with an examination of the conscious cat, further assessment under anesthesia is necessary for the purposes of radiography and treatment, making anesthesia an essential component of feline dentistry. Because feline patients with oral and dental diseases, as well as those convalescing from surgery, generally experience pain, multimodal perioperative analgesia and anesthesia are standard featur

Ocular injury awareness, knowledge, and safety practices among dental professionals, students, and supporting staff: A cross-sectional analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ocular health is important in dentistry because the profession relies on visual acuity and has a high risk of splatter, aerosols, and projectiles. There is a great deal of promotion with respect to personal protective equipment (PPE), but little is known about how the awareness is turned into protective behaviour in dental practice in Indian contexts. OBJECTIVE: To assess the extent of knowledge, awareness, and clinical practices related to ocular safety among dental professionals, students, and auxiliary staff in India, and to identify significant discrepancies between their theo

Potential role of metal nanoparticles in treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.

Peri-implantitis (PI), a pathological condition associated with plaque, affects the tissues around dental implants. In addition, peri-implant mucositis (PIM) is a precursor to the destructive inflammatory PI and is an inflammation of the soft tissues surrounding the dental implant. It is challenging to eradicate and regulate the PI treatment due to its limited effectiveness. Currently, there is a significant interest in the development and research of additional biocompatible materials to prevent the failure of dental implants. Nanotechnology has the potential to address or develop solutions t

Correlation of Covid-19 With Stomatognathic System With Homeopathic Proposal for Adjunct Treatment to Increase Oral and General Health.

CONTEXT: SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus responsible for the outbreak of COVID-19. Studies have shown that the expression of ACE2 was found in the smaller salivary glands was higher than that in the lungs, suggesting that salivary glands may be a potential target of the virus. This may indicate that one of the main gateways to coronavirus infection is the oral cavity. OBJECTIVE: This review intended to evaluate the comorbidities of the oral cavity and their relationships to COVID-19 and to show the benefits of homeopathic therapies as adjuvant treatments to increase oral and general health and miti

An aggressive dentigerous cyst in a seven-year-old child.

A review of literature indicates that very few of these cysts are found in children less than ten years of age, in spite of the fact that the cysts are associated with the eruption and/or formation of the secondary dentition. Although dentigerous cysts are rare in the first decade of life, a thorough review of a child's initial radiographs is of obvious importance as indicated by this case report. Of prime importance in this matter is the age at which the initial panoramic radiographic examination is performed on a child. According to the guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pedia

The preventive care of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ): a position paper by Italian experts for dental hygienists.

PURPOSE: The prevention and early diagnosis of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is fundamental to reducing the incidence and progression of MRONJ. Many in the field believe that dental hygienists should play an integral role in primary and secondary MRONJ prevention. However, to date, very few publications in the literature have proposed standardised MRONJ protocols, which are dedicated to dental hygienists. The aim of this study was to provide guidance to the health care providers managing MRONJ. METHODS: The expert opinion in this study was developed by dental hygienists
