Traditional healers in HIV differentiated service delivery.

BACKGROUND: Despite widespread adoption of differentiated service delivery (DSD) models for HIV care in Uganda, nearly one-third of people with HIV remain virally unsuppressed, and 30-60% of those initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) in sub-Saharan Africa are lost to follow-up. Current DSD frameworks primarily serve clinically stable clients, overlooking disengaged or unstable people with HIV who face barriers like stigma, lack of social support, and negative clinic experiences. Traditional healers, trusted and accessible community figures, may complement formal systems to enhance care enga

Monthly engagement with EIP keyworkers was associated with a five-fold increase in the odds of engagement with psychosocial interventions.

BACKGROUND: Early intervention in psychosis (EIP) supports people who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis (FEP). A new Model of Care (MoC) for EIP services was launched in Ireland in 2019. Three EIP demonstration sites were chosen to test this MoC through a 'hub and spoke' approach. These services were a new way of organising care for people experiencing FEP, based upon a recovery model of care, and which sought to standardise care, improve access by clinically led multidisciplinary teams. This included newly created EIP keyworker roles whereby keyworkers assumed responsibilities

Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Decision Making And Care Navigation Upon Release From Prison: A Feasibility Study.

PURPOSE: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a medical condition that is effectively treated with medications. A major challenge in breaking the cycle of OUD and related illegal activity is seamlessly introducing medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) as individuals leave jail or prison. We examined the feasibility of a pilot intervention to link participants to ongoing MOUD and psychosocial supports following release from custody. METHODS: The study enrolled adults with a history of OUD released from Washington State prisons to Department of Corrections (DOC) community supervision. Participants

Assessment and Treatment of Bipolar Disorder in the Community.

Bipolar disorder is a recurrent, heterogeneous condition that often begins in adolescence and typically requires lifelong, multimodal management. Advances in evidence-based assessment (EBA) offer structured frameworks for prediction, prescription, and progress monitoring, and pharmacological and psychosocial interventions supported by recent reviews and the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT)/International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) guidelines provide effective options across phases of illness. Despite these advances, the impact of evidence-based approaches rema

Positioning palliative oncology in health care in Caribbean and Sub-Saharan African countries: Leveraging social and economic opportunities.

Each year, millions of people around the world experience serious health-related suffering from life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses and require palliative care. Palliative care is a human right to adequate and timely interventions for the well-being of patients with serious illnesses and their families. The World Health Assembly incorporated palliative care as a component of universal health care, reinforcing the World Health Organization's mandate to support governments in integrating the service into primary health care. Yet, fewer than half of the countries across the globe have re

Understanding the mental health impact of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and their support networks in southeastern Myanmar post-military coup: a qualitative study.

Armed conflicts and military offensives after the 2021 coup in Myanmar have resulted in the internal displacement of almost 3.5 million people as of 2024. The internally displaced persons (IDPs) experience higher levels of psychological distress due to ongoing fears of military attacks, forced evictions, and financial hardships. As they cope with the unpredictability of their circumstances, many IDPs report experiencing persistent trauma symptoms, including nightmares, hypervigilance, and social withdrawal. This study aims to investigate the local conditions on the ground regarding the impact

Vitiligo: an update on systemic treatments.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition characterized by depigmented macules and patches, and has a huge psychosocial impact on patients. Treatment of vitiligo aims to prevent the spread of disease and facilitate repigmentation of affected lesions. The mainstay of treatment for unstable vitiligo has been topical agents (corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors) and phototherapy. However, systemic treatments are increasingly being shown to have a significant impact on the course of the disease as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy. Of note, oral mini-pulsed corticosteroid therapy, methotrexate,

Humanitarian data infrastructures for missing migrants: A multimodal and ethics-integrated framework.

Migrant disappearances have become a critical humanitarian crisis on global scale. However, the lack of strong, consolidated data across irregular migration routes is a barrier to effective intervention. In this paper, we aim to employ a sociotechnical systems perspective to design an ethics-infused infrastructure. Our primary objective is to convert multimodal digital traces into actionable intelligence, thereby supporting search, identification, and policy accountability. To standardize the analysis of decentralized digital evidence, we define a typology of 32 trace types encompassing ten do

Socioeconomic distress and health status: the urban-rural dichotomy of services utilization for people with sickle cell disorder in North Carolina.

Research on sickle cell disorder has not focused attention on the socioeconomic background and geographic distribution of people with the disease. This study examines 1,189 persons with sickle cell disorder in North Carolina during 1991 to 1995. Three indices were developed using clients' medical, psychosocial and socioeconomic characteristics for the purpose of analyzing the urban-rural difference in treatment for sickle cell disease. The study observed a wide disparity in these indices between urban and rural population groups. Also, differences were observed in the utilization of services a

Coping With Gender-Based Violence Across the Migration Journey: Strategies of Urban Refugee Women in Nairobi, Kenya.

This study examines the coping strategies used by refugee women who have survived gender-based violence (GBV) across multiple stages of migration. Drawing on interviews with 50 urban refugee women in Nairobi, Kenya, the study explores how coping processes shift or remain consistent throughout the migration trajectory using the migration process framework. Although GBV is widespread among forcibly displaced women globally, limited research has investigated how survivors appraise and manage the stress of these experiences over time and within changing displacement contexts. Guided by Lazarus and

Situational burden and challenges faced by informal caregivers of post-stroke patients: A narrative review.

Stroke is a leading cause of long-term functional disability and often requires caregiver support during recovery. Informal caregivers of post-stroke patients face multiple challenges related to medical and nursing competence, workload, and access to information. These challenges remain insufficiently explored and inadequately addressed in healthcare systems. Using predefined criteria, we searched PubMed and Google Scholar for English-language studies involving human participants and published between January 2015 and August 2025 on issues related to informal caregiving. After initial abstract
