Different wound dressings are used for the supportive treatment of patients with radiation-induced skin lesions. Depending on beam quality and energy, an increase of the dose administered to the skin and thus an aggravated skin reaction is to be expected during percutaneous irradiation. The increase of the skin dose during irradiation with photons (Co60, 6 MV, 42 MV) and electrons (7 MeV, 20 MeV, 42 MeV) was determined using thermoluminescence dosimetry. The use of wound dressings during electron irradiation and during soft irradiation therapy does not significantly increase the dose administe

A unique form of vasculitis occurring six months after radiation therapy for postoperative breast cancer is described herein. This rare, unexplainable reaction is a very unusual occurrence.

A clinical study of human skin desquamation has provided the variation of the isoeffect curve as a function of the fraction number and overall time. These results have been compared to ELLIS formula (N.S.D.). These results have been compared to relationships related to intestinal mucosa and lung. Differential effects are put in evidence between these tissues as a function of fractionation and overall time. Such differential effects are likely to exist between tumors and normal tissues; however the basic data are still missing for optimizing the time factors of the therapeutic irradiations.

Radiation dermatitis (RD) is one of the most common adverse effects of radiotherapy and significantly impacts patient comfort, quality of life, and treatment adherence. Effective supportive care strategies are therefore essential to preserve skin integrity and prevent treatment interruption. Among available wound care options, hydrogel dressings have emerged as promising biomaterials due to their ability to maintain a moist environment, reduce transepidermal water loss, provide cooling relief, and enable atraumatic removal. This review aims to critically evaluate the role of hydrogel dressings

Radiation therapy (RT) is a common component of breast cancer treatment. Chronic radiation dermatitis (CRD), defined as occurring after or extending beyond 90 days following the completion of RT, can be progressive and irreversible and manifest as changes in skin pigmentation, fibrosis, telangiectasia, ulceration, necrosis, and contribute to the development of cutaneous malignancy. There is limited existing research on the incidence, management approaches, and prevention strategies for CRD. The literature that does exist reports widely varying rates of CRD, reports the various manifestations i

Fluoroscopy-induced chronic radiation dermatitis (FICRD) is a rare complication of prolonged radiation exposure during noninvasive fluoroscopic procedures. The condition develops due to radiation-induced tissue damage, leading to inflammatory cytokines causing long-term tissue remodeling. Fluoroscopy-induced chronic radiation dermatitis can pose diagnostic challenges, as it can manifest months to years after the procedure-thus, patients may not associate skin findings with prior fluoroscopy. The diagnostic challenge may be further compounded because FICRD may have clinical manifestations that

PURPOSE: To map the evidence related to radiation recall dermatitis (RRD) in cancer patients previously treated with radiotherapy.
METHODS: A scoping review was conducted following the methodology outlined by the JBI Collaboration. The search was performed in PubMed, CINAHL, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane, and grey literature using Google Scholar and ProQuest on January 28, 2025. Studies published in any language and without restrictions on publication year were included.
RESULTS: This review incorporated 210 studies on RRD in cancer patients, with a predominance of

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: Radiation recall dermatitis (RRD) is a skin reaction limited to an area of prior radiation triggered by the subsequent introduction of systemic therapy. To characterize RRD, we conducted a literature search, summarized RRD features, and compared the most common drug classes implicated in this phenomenon.
MATERIALS/METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane DBSR databases were queried through July 1, 2019 using key words: radiation recall, RRD, and radiodermatitis (limited to humans and English language). Studies included case reports in which patients tr…
