CT radiomics to predict Deauville score 4 positive and negative Hodgkin lymphoma manifestations.

18F-FDG-PET/CT is standard to assess response in Hodgkin lymphoma by quantifying metabolic activity with the Deauville score. PET/CT, however, is time-consuming, cost-extensive, linked to high radiation and has a low availability. As an alternative, we investigated radiomics from non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography (NECT) scans. 75 PET/CT examinations of 43 patients on two different scanners were included. Target lesions were classified as Deauville score 4 positive (DS4+) or negative (DS4-) based on their SUVpeak and then segmented in NECT images. From these segmentations, 107 features …

Predicting amyloid positivity in patients with mild cognitive impairment using a radiomics approach.

Predicting amyloid positivity in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is crucial. In the present study, we predicted amyloid positivity with structural MRI using a radiomics approach. From MR images (including T1, T2 FLAIR, and DTI sequences) of 440 MCI patients, we extracted radiomics features composed of histogram and texture features. These features were used alone or in combination with baseline non-imaging predictors such as age, sex, and ApoE genotype to predict amyloid positivity. We used a regularized regression method for feature selection and prediction. The performance of t…

FDG PET versus CT radiomics to predict outcome in malignant pleural mesothelioma patients.

BACKGROUND: Careful selection of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) patients for curative treatment is of highest importance, as the multimodal treatment regimen is challenging for patients and harbors a high risk of substantial toxicity. Radiomics-a quantitative method for image analysis-has shown its prognostic ability in different tumor entities and could therefore play an important role in optimizing patient selection for radical cancer treatment. So far, radiomics as a prognostic tool in MPM was not investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is based on 72 MPM patients treated wit…

Influence of inter-observer delineation variability on radiomics stability in different tumor sites.

BACKGROUND: Radiomics is a promising methodology for quantitative analysis and description of radiological images using advanced mathematics and statistics. Tumor delineation, which is still often done manually, is an essential step in radiomics, however, inter-observer variability is a well-known uncertainty in radiation oncology. This study investigated the impact of inter-observer variability (IOV) in manual tumor delineation on the reliability of radiomic features (RF). METHODS: Three different tumor types (head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM…

Integrating Radiomics and Machine Learning to Improve Fluorescence Image Segmentation in in vitro models.

Myocardial infarction leads to fibrotic scar formation, compromising heart function and leading to heart failure. In vitro models of cardiac fibrotic tissue are essential tools for testing therapeutic strategies designed for this disease. Fluorescence microscopy is an imaging technique that provides high-resolution images of such models, but the segmentation of cellular components (e.g., cytoskeleton and nucleus) and therapeutic agents remains challenging. This early-stage study investigates the integration of radiomics and machine learning (ML) to improve cytoskeleton segmentation in fluoresc…

An auxiliary diagnosis model for the pathological classification of cervical cancer based on radiomics biomarkers.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer remains a major global health burden, and accurate pathological classification is essential for personalized treatment planning. However, conventional radiomics studies often rely on manual lesion delineation and are limited in extracting meaningful imaging biomarkers from heterogeneous cervical cancer lesions. METHODS: We proposed a convolutional recurrent feature extraction (CRFE)-based automatic segmentation framework for cervical cancer MRI images and developed histogram-based imaging features reflecting lesion pixel concentration trends. These features were …
