A Retinal Image Sequence Registration Method Based on Longitudinal 3D Fundoscopy Scene Modeling.

Accurate and reliable global registration is the basis and prerequisite for longitudinal studies of related diseases that are based on retinal image sequences. However, most existing retinal image registration methods do not consider the implicit inherent spatiotemporal transformation process between the retinal images to be registered, resulting in low accuracy or poor reliability. In this paper, we propose a 3D spatiotemporal model that simulates the fundoscopy scene which is on a longitudinal time-axis. There are two main components: 1) a dynamic eyeball model that simulates the changes in

Measuring prejudice and stereotypes: A systematic review of psychometric quality and conceptual foundations.

Prejudice and stereotypes are central constructs in social psychology, yet instruments used to measure them vary in conceptual clarity and psychometric evidence. This preregistered systematic review provides a comprehensive, cross-method synthesis of the psychometric properties and theoretical foundations of measures assessing racial and ethnic prejudice and stereotypes. Following PRISMA and COSMIN guidelines, we screened 13,363 records and included 263 studies published between 1951 and 2024. We evaluated reliability, validity, factor structure, measurement invariance and conceptual alignment

Validation of the Monocyte Activation Test Demonstrating Equivalence to the Rabbit Pyrogen Test.

The Monocyte Activation Test (MAT) is an in vitro assay that uses human blood cells to detect both endotoxins and non-endotoxin pyrogens (NEPs), representing a scientifically and ethically superior alternative to the in vivo Rabbit Pyrogen Test (RPT). In the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.), the MAT is a compendial method which is explicitly recommended to replace the RPT, requiring only product-specific verification. In contrast, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) lacks a dedicated MAT chapter, meaning the MAT can only be accepted as an alternative method, given that a full method validati

CNN-based remote dental diagnosis model for caries detection with grad-CAM.

Dental caries is a prevalent global condition, and its diagnosis often requires direct clinical examination by a dentist. However, access to traditional dental care can be limited due to high costs, availability, and patient discomfort. To address these limitations, this study introduced a remote caries detection model using a ResBlock-AutoEncoder that generates domain-specific pre-trained weights. The model demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving an accuracy of 0.9989, an F1-score of 0.9979, and a precision of 1.0, while maintaining a low average inference time of 5.7939 seconds. Furt

A Simple Mixed-Effects Modeling for the Precision of Automated Differential Cell Counters Using R.

To register their device, manufacturers of automated differential cell counters (ADCC) are required to demonstrate satisfactory precision that meets regulatory standards such as those in 21 CFR 864.5220 in the United States. Mixed-effects models can be used for the estimation of variance components from a range of factors (operators, days, reagent lots, etc.) to characterize the "within-laboratory" or "across laboratories" analytical error associated with ADCCs for a variety of samples representing a plethora of measurand intervals. However, this task can be daunting and time-consuming due to

Recommendations for robust and reproducible research on ferroptosis.

Ferroptosis is a necrotic, non-apoptotic cell death modality triggered by unrestrained iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. By unveiling the regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and its relevance to various diseases, research over the past decade has positioned ferroptosis as a promising therapeutic target. The rapid growth of this research field presents challenges, associated with potentially inadequate experimental approaches that may lead to misinterpretations in the assessment of ferroptosis. Typical examples include assessing whether an observed phenotype is indeed linked to ferroptosis, a

Validation of speckle tracking analysis for assessing fascia sliding mobility.

Fascia sliding mobility and deformation magnitude are potential biomarkers for musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the thoracolumbar fascia over the erector spinae muscles, which are associated with low back pain. The use of speckle tracking analysis of ultrasound images through open-source software has been proposed for assessing fascia sliding mobility and deformation of the fascia. However, little is known about the validity and reliability of speckle tracking analysis. Since open-source projects for speckle tracking analysis have made great progress, an assessment of validity and re

Torsobarography: Intra-Observer Reliability Study of a Novel Posture Analysis Based on Pressure Distribution.

Postural deformities often manifest themselves in a sagittal imbalance and an asymmetric morphology of the torso. As a novel topographic method, torsobarography assesses the morphology of the back by analysing pressure distribution along the torso in a lying position. At torsobarography's core is a capacitive pressure sensor array. To evaluate its feasibility as a diagnostic tool, the reproducibility of the system and extracted anatomical associated parameters were evaluated on 40 subjects. Landmarks and reference distances were identified within the pressure images. The examined parameters de

Reliable anti-cancer drug sensitivity prediction and prioritization.

The application of machine learning (ML) to solve real-world problems does not only bear great potential but also high risk. One fundamental challenge in risk mitigation is to ensure the reliability of the ML predictions, i.e., the model error should be minimized, and the prediction uncertainty should be estimated. Especially for medical applications, the importance of reliable predictions can not be understated. Here, we address this challenge for anti-cancer drug sensitivity prediction and prioritization. To this end, we present a novel drug sensitivity prediction and prioritization approach
