Rosacea is characterised by a wide variety of vascular changes. Apart from telangiectasia and erythema, often so-called flushing occurs. These vascular abnormalities can be targeted with specific light and laser devices. In addition to KTP laser, pulsed dye laser (PDL) and Nd:YAG laser, also intense pulsed light devices (IPLs) are used. Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory disorder that affects approximately 16 million Americans. The multifactorial pathophysiology of rosacea is not fully understood. Several new treatment options were recently US Food and Drug Administration approved or are in clinical trials. This paper reviews new treatment options including ivermectin, brimonidine, the new foam formulation of azelaic acid, and oxymetazoline. The potential role in therapy, patient selection, and adverse effects of these agents are discussed.

The role of vascular lasers in the treatment of rosacea is important. Despite the relative low number of studies using an excellent methodology, one can consider that it is un-discussable. Phyma is the last stage of rosacea and is due to chronic inflammation and edema. It can affect nose (rhinophyma), chin (gnatophyma), forehead (metophyma), ears (otophyma) and eyelids (blepharophyma). Mucin deposit is a feature that is not commonly mentioned in textbooks when talking about rosacea. Nevertheless, it is one of the prominent findings of a severe variant of the phymatous type of rosacea known as the fibrous type. We retrospectively investigated 20 cases of early stages of rosacea and examined the mucin deposit in them, with histochemical stains (Alcian Blue and Periodic Acid-Schiff).
