[Small cell type (Ewing-like) clear cell sarcoma of soft parts: a case report].

The authors present a unique case of small cell variant of clear cell sarcoma of soft parts in a 42-year old woman. The tumor originally arose in the right flank of the soft tissues and ultimately developed both a local recurrence and multiple distant skin metastases two years and ten months thereafter. Nonspecific morphology of small blue round cell tumor was preserved at all microscopically verified sites and initially led to the spectrum of erroneous diagnoses such as an extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma as well as malignant melanoma. The distinctive features of clear cell …

Cervical extension of the thymus mimicking metastatic recurrence of Ewing sarcoma on PET/CT.

Occasionally the thymus may extend in the neck, from its normal location in the anterior mediastinum. The cervical extension, especially when the native thymus is hyperplastic, can mimic a mass. We describe the detection of cervical extension of the hyperplastic thymus, presenting as a suspicious recurrent soft tissue mass in the neck in a patient with Ewing's sarcoma.

Unusual sites of extraskeletal metastases of Ewing sarcoma after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) for solid tumors remains under investigation. We report a case of extended disease stability after a nonmyeloablative peripheral blood SCT for metastatic, refractory Ewing sarcoma. Of note, the patient developed metastatic disease to 2 unusual sites-the brain and small intestine. The allogeneic SCT environment may alter typical metastatic patterns, and may represent an ideal platform to manipulate and enhance the antitumor immune response. Further clinical trials are needed to evaluate the role for allogeneic SCT for this disease.

Cytologic diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma/peripheral neuroectodermal tumor with paired prospective molecular genetic analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma/peripheral neuroectodermal tumor (EWS/PNET), since its characterization immunophenotypically and cytogenetically, has emerged as one of most common sarcomas of childhood. Currently, it is recognized that EWS/PNET can occur in any number of extraosseous sites and is one of several distinctive tumor types with an EWS translocation. In the past, the pathologic diagnosis of EWS/PNET relied on an open biopsy with the application of various ancillary studies, ranging from periodic acid-Schiff stain to molecular testing, but the tumor increasingly is diagnosed on the basis o

High-Dose Chemotherapy Compared With Standard Chemotherapy and Lung Radiation in Ewing Sarcoma With Pulmonary Metastases: Results of the European Ewing Tumour Working Initiative of National Groups, 99 Trial and EWING 2008.

PURPOSE: The R2Pulm trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of busulfan-melphalan high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem-cell rescue (BuMel) without whole-lung irradiation (WLI) on event-free survival (main end point) and overall survival, compared with standard chemotherapy with WLI in Ewing sarcoma (ES) presenting with pulmonary and/or pleural metastases. METHODS: From 2000 to 2015, we enrolled patients younger than 50 years of age with newly diagnosed ES and with only pulmonary or pleural metastases. Patients received chemotherapy with six courses of vincristine, ifosfamide, doxoru

Primary Ewing's sarcoma of the vagina: A rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is an aggressive malignancy affecting bone and soft tissues, predominantly occurring in the skeletal system. The occurrence of Ewing's sarcoma (ES) or primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) with in the female genital tract is rare. Even rarer is its occurrence in the vagina, with only 22 cases reported to date. Accurate diagnosis necessitates a multifaceted approach that includes morphology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular pathology; the gold standard for diagnosis is next-generation sequencing (NGS), which is characterized by chromosomal translocations res

A Rare Case of Ewing Sarcoma of the Maxilla and a Literature Review of Similar Cases.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a small, round, blue cell malignant neoplasm that rarely occurs in the craniofacial skeleton, with presentation in the maxilla being exceedingly rare. We report the case of a 14-year-old girl with a two-year history of slowly progressive facial swelling that has recently become greatly enlarged. Imaging revealed an aggressive expansile left maxillary lesion with soft-tissue involvement and internal calcifications. Surgical resection was performed, and histopathological analysis showed sheets of homogenous round cells with minimal cytoplasm and round nuclei. Immunohistoche

A rare case of calcified metastasis in a patient with primary osseous Ewing's sarcoma.

We report an unusual case of an 11-year-old male with Ewing's sarcoma of the right fibula who presented 6 years post-remission with progressive dyspnea, fever, and swelling of the right ankle. Imaging revealed multiple partially calcified "cannonball" pulmonary metastases and a large, partially ossified, pleura-based mediastinal mass-an atypical metastatic presentation for this tumor. Histopathological confirmation was essential due to the diagnostic challenge posed by the calcifications, which are typically associated with infection or other malignancies. This case highlights the importance o

Extra skeletal Ewing's sarcoma in the parapharyngeal space: A rare case report.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a tumour commonly seen in children and usually affects the long bones. Its presence in the soft tissues of the parapharyngeal space is exceptionally rare, with only 29 cases reported in the literature so far. We report the case of a 21-year-old male with Extra skeletal Ewing's Sarcoma (EES) in the parapharyngeal space, who presented with complaints of dysphagia and submandibular swelling displacing the tonsil and uvula. Despite normal systemic examinations, initial Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) suggested a benign cystic lesion, probably a pleomorphic adenoma. H

Rare presentation of Ewing's sarcoma underscores the diagnostic challenges in atypical cases.

A female patient in her late teens presented with an initially episodic right-sided chest pain that gradually became persistent and associated with a high-grade fever, starting 15 days earlier but worsening over a week. Physical examination revealed tenderness on the right side of the chest and reduced air entry in the right middle and lower lung fields. Initial imaging demonstrated a right-sided pleural effusion with a chest wall mass lesion. A chronic infection like tuberculosis (TB) was suspected. However, an ultrasound-guided thoracentesis confirmed an exudative pleural effusion with low a

Extraskeletal ewing's sarcoma on hard palate biltaerally: A rare case report.

Ewing Sarcoma belongs to the category of undifferentiated blue small round cell tumour and its origin has been traced to be that from inside of the bone, but can also arise in soft tissues (extraosseous form). These lesions belong to the category of round cell tumours, which includes a varied range of tumours. This category, although found in other extremities and thoracic regions, head and neck region have been reported to have less number of tumours, in addition to that the soft tissue counterparts are even scarcely reported. Thereby, this case reports represents a soft tissue counterpart of

Pediatric Patient with a Diagnosis of Pelvic Extraosseous Ewing's Sarcoma: A Case Report.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a malignant tumor that arises mainly from bone tissue. Primary extraosseous Ewing sarcoma (EES) is a rare form of the Ewing's sarcoma family of tumor, and pelvic localization is even more unusual, considered to be one of the rarest localizations [1]. We present the case of a seven-year-old boy with persistent abdominal pain. Ultrasound (US), contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the presence of a large, solid, and heterogeneous mass in the pelvis. The histological and immunohistochemistry were compatible with pelvic

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the thigh with lung and bone metastasis: Case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma is an uncommon tumor with a devastating prognosis and a very high mortality rate, particularly in metastatic forms, it primarily affects young people mainly in the 2nd to 4th decades of life. It can affect different parts of the body, without a particular clinical presentation which delays diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: 12-year-old male patient presented with swelling over the left proximal thigh of 7 months duration associated with pain and limping. On physical examination, he had about 20 × 15 cm firm, tender, and erythematous proxim

Ewing's sarcoma of the duodenum: a rare clinical condition managed with surgical resection.

A man in his 40s with no medical history presented with right-sided abdominal and chest pain. A CT scan of the abdomen demonstrated a 7.7 cm heterogeneous mass arising from the second part of the duodenum. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy confirmed a malignant-appearing duodenal lesion, with biopsy showing features consistent with small cell carcinoma. The patient underwent three cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by elective Kausch-Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy. A combination of immunohistochemistry and molecular studies confirmed the diagnosis of a rare Ewing's sarcoma tumour originat

EXTRASKELETAL EWING'S SARCOMA IN PEDIATRIC PATIENT RARE CASE: A CASE REPORT.

This study reports a 12-year-old male was referred to our institute with a mass in the right ear. The mass was rapidly growing thus needing an immediate surgical attention. MRI revealed an exophytic, hyper vascular mass extending to the right jugular fossa and, the middle ear, and to the right acoustic meatus, suggestive of a right glomus jugulare tumor. Angiography showed a hypervascular lesion with robust feeding from the superficial temporal artery and right occipital artery. After surgery, the patient rapidly recover and he was discharged home on the 5th day after surgery. Three months aft

Rare origin - Ewing's sarcoma of the pleura: a case report and literature review.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) was first reported by Ewing in 1921. It is the second largest malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents, typically occurring in the bones of trunk or limbs . Extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES) was first reported by Tefft et al. in 1969 and is extremely rare, accounting for less than 1% of all sarcomas. It can occur in any part of soft tissue, mostly in the trunk and lower limbs, and rarely in the pleura. We report a 22-year-old case of extraosseous Ewing sarcoma of pleural origin discovered and pathologically confirmed by physical examination. We report its CT manifest

Case report: Primary mediastinal Ewing's sarcoma presenting with chest tightness.

Ewing's sarcoma is a part of a rare group of malignant neoplasms, whose pathological morphological features are small round cells. Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma is a more uncommon primary tumor. Herein, we report the case of a 66-year-old man who complained of chest tightness. Subsequent chest CT scans revealed an irregular and uneven density mass on the right side of the anterior mediastinum with invasion of the superior vena cava, pericardium and right lung. The patient's clinical symptoms were improved after performing excision of the mediastinal lesions under cardiopulmonary bypass. Based

Ewing's Sarcoma (Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor) of Seminal Vesicles: A Case Report.

Malignant tumors of the seminal vesicles are rare; they may be of epithelial or mesenchymal origin. Carcinomas are the most common and pelvic sarcoma may be confused with a primary tumor of the seminal vesicles. Little is known of the prognosis and best sequence of treatment in such sarcoma. We report a rare case of extra-skeletal Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the seminal vesicles in a 54-year-old man who presented with chronic lower abdominal pain, urinary retention, and severe constipation. Pelvic CT scan and MRI confirmed the presence of a soft tissue mass lesion centered

Ectopic ACTH Secretion in a Child With Metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma: A Case Report.

Ectopic ACTH syndrome is rare in pediatric age. Sarcomas that cause Ectopic ACTH Syndrome (EAS) are even more uncommon. Currently, only three cases of EAS caused by Ewing' sarcoma have been reported. We detail a 10-year-old boy with Cushing's syndrome symptoms caused by ectopic ACTH production by a metastatic Ewing's sarcoma of the right ischio-pubic and ileo-pubic branches. The rapid appearance of cushingoid symptoms, with significant weight gain, acne, hirsutism, and hypercortisolism were implications of ectopic ACTH production as paraneoplastic Cushing's Syndrome.
