Is outcome observed in performance of clinical tests associated with patient-reported outcome measures after patellofemoral pain treatment? Secondary analysis of data from a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Clinical functional tests for patellofemoral pain (PFP), such as step-up, step-down and squat, are commonly used in clinic practice, although the extent to which changes in these tests reflect changes in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: Investigate how changes in step-up, step-down, and squat tests are associated with changes in PROMs in individuals with PFP. METHODS: This secondary analysis used data from a randomized controlled trial (N = 218) comparing 12-week outcomes following either foot orthoses or 4-week hip exercise program. The numbe

Outcomes of amputation and limb salvage in combat injuries: Does level of injury matter? A secondary analysis of Military Extremity Trauma Amputation/Limb Salvage (METALS) study data.

BACKGROUND: The Lower Extremity Assessment Project (LEAP) and Military Extremity Trauma Amputation/Limb Salvage Study (METALS) reported conflicting results with respect to severe lower extremity injuries treated with limb salvage versus amputation. The LEAP study reported no difference between amputation and limb salvage groups, while the METALS study reported improved outcomes with amputation. The purpose of this study was to re-evaluate the METALS data to determine whether the ankle/hindfoot injuries were the main driver of the results of improved outcome with amputation. METHODS: This is a

Dreams Interrupted: A Secondary Data Analysis Unraveling Predictors and Correlates of Insomnia Symptoms and Sleep Distress Among Ghanian Men Who Have Sex With Men Living With HIV.

Insomnia symptoms, including difficulty sleeping and daytime fatigue, are prevalent among people living with HIV, particularly men who have sex with men. In Ghana, criminalization and marginalization exacerbate these sleep disturbances. Our study analyzed 2017 survey data from 225 men who have sex with men living with HIV using logistic regression and generalized boosted models. Results showed 42.1% reported insomnia symptoms, with 33.8% finding them distressing. Enacted stigma, internalized stigma, same-sex behavior stigma, and perceived stress were key risk factors, whereas a sense of commun

Prognostic Characteristics of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver in Patients with Obesity Who Undergo One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass Surgery: A Secondary Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trial Data.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is closely associated with obesity and insulin resistance (IR). Identifying characteristics that predict a higher risk of fibrosis using noninvasive methods is particularly important. METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of data from an RCT of 48 patients after one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) surgery, supplemented with specifically formulated probiotics and micronutrients or control treatment for 12 weeks. Patients were categorized using alanine aminotransferase (ALAT; >35 U/L for women, >50 U/

Changes in Biomarkers of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) upon Access to Avocados in Hispanic/Latino Adults: Secondary Data Analysis of a Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a public health concern and Hispanic/Latinos are disproportionately affected. There is evidence for favorable effects of dietary intake of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) on NAFLD, yet studies examining avocados as a source of MUFA on hepatic function have not been assessed. We investigated the effects of low (3) vs. high (14) avocado allotment on biomarkers of NAFLD, oxidative stress, and NAFLD fibrosis score in a sample of Hispanic/Latino adults. Primary outcomes include hepatic function biomarkers [gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT), high-sensiti

Secondary Primary Cancer after Primary Gastric Cancer: Literature Review and Big Data Analysis Using the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) Database of Republic of Korea.

Advances in cancer screening and early detection, as well as improvements in surgical techniques and therapeutics, have contributed to decreasing gastric cancer mortality. The number of gastric cancer survivors continues to rise; however, long-term follow-up has revealed an increase in the risk of post-gastrectomy symptoms or other health problems, such as extra-gastric secondary primary cancer (SPC), in these survivors. Therefore, evidence-based screening for new primary cancer is needed in these populations; however, the incidence of SPC varies by country or continent and its characteristics

Associations between birth kit use and maternal and neonatal health outcomes in rural Jigawa state, Nigeria: A secondary analysis of data from a cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The burden of maternal and neonatal mortality remains persistently high in Nigeria. Sepsis contributes significantly to both maternal and newborn mortality, and safe delivery kits have long been promoted as a cost-effective intervention to ensure hygienic delivery practices and reduce sepsis. However, there is limited evidence on the effectiveness of home birth kit distribution by community health workers, and particularly the impact of this intervention on health outcomes. This paper reports a secondary analysis of data from a cluster randomized trial in rural northern Nigeria in

Assessing the impact of Lithuania's 2018 alcohol marketing ban on adolescent alcohol use by comparing trends with five EU control countries: a study protocol for a secondary data analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Alcohol consumption poses a significant health risk, contributing to 10% of deaths in the WHO European Region. To combat this, the WHO recommends the implementation of its 'best buy' policies-three cost-effective alcohol policies that include higher taxes, restricted availability and marketing bans. While evidence links alcohol marketing to increased consumption, the effectiveness of marketing bans in decreasing alcohol use remains inconclusive. Lithuania's 2018 comprehensive alcohol marketing ban offers a unique opportunity to measure the impact of this particular 'best buy' con

Influence of socio-contextual factors on the link between traditional and new media use, and young people's sexual risk behaviour in Sub-Saharan Africa: a secondary data analysis.

BACKGROUND: Traditional and new media use links to young people's sexual risk behaviour. The social contexts of young people's daily lives that influence media use and sexual risk behaviour are often investigated as independent causal mechanisms. We examined the link between media use and young people's sexual risk behaviour, considering the intersecting socio-contextual factors in Sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS: Age-adjusted bivariate logistic regression models tested the association between traditional media (TV, radio, and newspapers), and new media (mobile phone and online) use and sexual ri

Preliminary evidence of psychological improvements and increased maternal-fetal attachment associated with a mindfulness sleep programme: secondary analysis of uncontrolled data in 11 pregnant women with insomnia disorder.

Treating insomnia during pregnancy improves sleep and depressed mood. However, given well-established links between poor sleep and a broad spectrum of adverse maternal outcomes, the benefits of insomnia care may reach beyond sleep and depression. The present study evaluated the preliminary efficacy of 'Perinatal Understanding of Mindful Awareness for Sleep' (PUMAS)-a mindfulness sleep programme tailored to pregnancy that combines behavioural sleep strategies and meditation-for enhancing everyday mindfulness and maternal-fetal attachment, as well as for alleviating anxiety, repetitive thinking,
