BACKGROUND: Mental disorders are the leading cause of disease burden among youth. Effective prevention of mental disorders during adolescence is a critical public health strategy to reduce both individual and societal harms. Schools are an important setting for prevention; however, existing universal school-based mental health interventions have shown null, and occasionally iatrogenic, effects in preventing symptoms of common disorders, such as depression and anxiety.

BACKGROUND: Sexual minority women (SMW) and transgender and/or nonbinary (TNB) individuals report an elevated prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and negative alcohol-related outcomes compared to heterosexual women and cisgender people. SMW and TNB individuals also face barriers to utilizing treatment, which can result in delayed or missed appointments. Accessible, feasible, and effective treatment approaches, such as web-based expressive writing (EW) treatments, are needed to address PTSD and negative alcohol-related outcomes in these populations.

This study aims to contribute to the evaluation of online therapy during Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns, by exploring family therapists' experiences of therapy for twelve Sibling Sexual Abuse (SSA) families in the Netherlands. Seven transcripts of interviews with highly specialised Dutch family therapists were analysed using thematic analysis (TA). Two main findings emerged from this study. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sexual functioning problems often co-occur after trauma. Researchers have linked certain factors (e.g., depression, relationship satisfaction) to PTSD and sexual functioning, but it is unclear how these variables interact. Adult undergraduate female trauma survivors (N = 280) completed self-report measures via an online survey. Latent variable mixture modeling generated four groups that differed in terms of their PTSD symptom severity, sexual functioning, sexual pain, relationship status, and relationship functioning. BACKGROUND: Research has shown a strong relationship between psychosis and sexual assault. Theories on developmental trauma as a causal factor for psychosis suggest that exposure to sexual trauma in childhood would have a stronger association with psychosis than sexual trauma in adulthood.
