[Intensive outpatient group treatment for adolescents with eating disorders].

We present an intensive outpatient group treatment for girls with eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder) additionally to/instead of inpatient treatment or individually treatment by psychotherapists. The therapy concept is primarily behaviour therapy oriented, encouraging the self-management-abilities of the patients thereby learning self-determination and responsibility in dealing with their illness. The slow-open group concept provokes group cohesion, solidarity and support among girls, who share similar age-related development-stages and eating disorders.

Multiple Community Informants Enhance Public Information About Predators Across a Latitudinal Gradient in Bird Communities of China.

"Community informant" species serve as critical sources of information. However, interactions between multiple informant species in complex systems remain unclear, including whether they jointly contribute vocalizations and thus public information, eavesdrop on each other, or do not interact, and whether joint contributions provide benefits through complementary or supplementary mechanisms. We elicited mobbing calls using an owl model and alarm calls using a raptor model inside mixed-species flocks (MSFs) in a two-year survey on a 1650 km latitudinal gradient (18.7°N-33.7°N) in China, across w

Activity space patterns and loneliness: Evidence from the pan-Canadian COHESION cohort.

INTRODUCTION: This study examines the association between activity space and loneliness, hypothesizing that individuals with broader (i.e., more spatially extensive and diverse) daily movement patterns are less likely to experience loneliness. METHODS: Data were derived from the COHESION Study, a nationwide Canadian cohort. Participants (N = 1176) who completed the VERITAS map questionnaire were included. The primary outcome, loneliness, was assessed using a validated three-item scale, and activity spaces were calculated using the activspace R package. An ordinal logistic regression model ana

The Vocal Repertoire of Gray-Cheeked Mangabeys (Lophocebus albigena) in the Bugoma Forest Reserve, Uganda.

Vocal communication is central for regulating social interactions among primates, particularly in dense forest environments with limited visibility. The acoustic structure of vocalizations is often shaped by a species' socio-ecology. However, numerous species remain poorly documented, including the gray-cheeked mangabey (Lophocebus albigena), an arboreal primate endemic to the forests of Central and East Africa. We combined acoustic measurements with behavioral observations to provide a first quantitative and contextual description of the gray-cheeked mangabey vocal repertoire in the Bugoma Ce

On the importance of primary and community healthcare in relation to global health and environmental threats: lessons from the COVID-19 crisis.

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become clear that primary healthcare systems play a critical role in clinical care, such as p … ounded by political failures, in supporting local community resilience. Placing community building, social cohesion and resilience at the forefront of dealing with the COVID-19 crisis can help align solutions that provide a vision of 'planetary health'. This can be achieved by involving local well-being and participation in the face of any pervasive health and en …

Effects of β-diketone antibiotic mixtures on behavior of zebrafish (Danio rerio).

To date, few data are available on neurotoxicity of β-diketone antibiotics (DKAs) from the perspective of animal behavior. Herein, the effec … behavior (+38%) resulting from an anxiety-like state, but 25 mg/L DKAs exposure decreased zebrafish social cohesion (-41%) possibly due to an autism-like state. With increasing DKAs-exposure concentration, the signal intensity of (1)O2 gradually decreased, leading to insufficient energy supply and movement functional disorders. The impact and legacy of COVID-19 on community-based multidisciplinary teams organising integrated health and social care for older people with long-term conditions: Findings from the evaluation of the integrated care and support Pioneers.

ObjectivesThe COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted health and social care (HSC) services in many countries, including England. At the same time, it forced systems to respond innovatively to radically changed circumstances and challenges. This study identifies the impacts and emerging legacy of the pandemic for community-based multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) supporting older people with multiple long-term conditions living in their own homes.MethodsThirty-eight strategic, operational, and frontline staff involved with MDTs in seven areas in England were interviewed between July 2020 and August 2

Co-creating community initiatives on physical activity and healthy eating in a low-income neighbourhood in Quito, Ecuador.

Promoting healthy behaviours to improve population health requires strategies that foster supportive environments and actively engage communities. Here, we detail an evidence-informed co-creation process in Ferroviaria, a low-income neighbourhood in Quito, Ecuador, led by six members of a local Women's Association. Co-creation here involved a participatory approach that integrated local epidemiological data on non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors and employed the "Dialogue Forum" methodology to guide collective decision-making. Through this process, community leaders and participants pr

Early Life Stress Effects on Children's Biology, Behavior, and Health: Evidence, Mediators, Moderators, and Solutions.

This review synthesizes and critiques research on early life adversity and stress effects on multidomain health outcomes in child samples to fill a gap in the literature that has largely focused on adults. Prioritizing evidence from meta-analytic and systematic reviews as well as findings from (quasi-)experimental or large prospective longitudinal studies, we integrate interdisciplinary findings to characterize patterns of evidence for stress associations with child outcomes, including mental, physical, and positive health; academic, social, and justice system-related domains; and intermediary

Association of social and environmental exposures at the neighborhood level with child brain volume.

BACKGROUND: Prior studies show that neighborhood disadvantage negatively impacts children's cognitive function and brain volume. However, despite their co-occurrence, there is a lack of cohesive examination of the joint effects of environmental and social factors on brain volumes. OBJECTIVES: Using environmental mixture methods, we investigated the association between a child's neighborhood environment and brain volume in regions relevant for cognitive and cognitive-affective function. METHODS: We leveraged a sample of 8574 nine and ten-year-old children from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive D

Validity of evidence-derived criteria for reactive attachment disorder: indiscriminately social/disinhibited and emotionally withdrawn/inhibited types.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the validity of criteria for indiscriminately social/disinhibited and emotionally withdrawn/inhibited reactive attachment disorder (RAD). METHOD: As part of a longitudinal intervention trial of previously institutionalized children, caregiver interviews and direct observational measurements provided continuous and categorical data used to examine the internal consistency, criterion validity, construct validity, convergent and discriminant validity, association with functional impairment, and stability of these disorders over time. RESULTS: As in other studies,

A granular perspective on inclusion: Objectively measured interactions of preschoolers with and without autism.

Children's preschool experiences have consequences for development. However, it is not clear how children's real-time interactions with peers affect their language development; nor is it clear whether these processes differ between children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and two other groups of children, those with general developmental delays (DD) and typically developing (TD) children. We used objective measures of movement and vocalizations to quantify children's real-time dyadic vocal interactions and quantify classroom social networks. Participants included 56 preschoolers (22 female

Political and social analysis of the impact of national identity and gender roles on national stability (in the context of Kazakhstan).

INTRODUCTION: In post-Soviet societies, the transformation of national identity and gender roles has become a pressing issue for state stability. However, there is little empirical research on the combined impact of these factors on social cohesion. This study aims to analyze the relationship between attitudes toward national identity, gender equality, and national stability in Kazakhstan. METHODS: The research design used a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. In the first phase, 284 participants were surveyed using purposive sampling targeting urban youth …

Intergenerational Solidarity With Older Parents and Self-Esteem of Middle-Aged Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic: The United States and South Korea Comparison.

Intergenerational social support has been considered an important factor in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. However, prior research has overlooked the connection between intergenerational solidarity-social cohesion between generations-and self-esteem across Western and Asian families during the pandemic. We aimed to discover common unobserved latent classes of intergenerational solidarity with older parents among middle-aged adults during the pandemic in the United States and South Korea. In addition, we sought to determine if the identified solidarity latent classes were linked to th…
