Values for hair chromium concentration of nulliparous women and parous women who had just given birth to a child were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In our previous work, we highlighted the thermodynamic and spectroscopic characteristics of the 1:1 charge transfer (CT) complexation of TCNE acceptor with various medically important drugs. Seven novel pyrazolone derivatives were synthesized and characterized by (1) H NMR and (13) C NMR spectra, mass spectra, infrared spectra and elemental analysis. The determination of silica concentrations in geothermal brines is widely recognized as a difficult analytical task due to its complex chemical polymerization kinetics that occurs during sample collection and chemical analysis. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) has been evaluated as a new reliable analytical method to measure silica (as silicates) in geothermal brines. Synthetic and geothermal brine samples were used to evaluate CE methodology. A capillary electrophoresis instrument, Quanta 4000 (Waters-Millipore) coupled with a Waters 820 workstation was used to carry out the experimental work.

Synthesis of pimeloyl CoA based on the reaction of N-hydroxysuccinimide ester of pimelic acid and coenzyme A in the presence of sodium hydroxide is reported. The CoA derivative has been isolated, purified and fully characterized from its chemical properties and spectral data. The yields are superior to acid chloride, anhydride or ester exchange methods due to lack of side reactions.

CD and MCD spectra of human methemoglobin and its derivatives were studied with special reference to the relation of CD and MCD spectra to the magnetic moments. The intensities of MCD peaks of methemoglobin derivatives at 270 nm were inversely proportional to their magnetic susceptibility, and there was a linear relationship between magnetic ellipticity and magnetic susceptibility. The MCD peak intensity of methemoglobin peroxide compound was close to that of methemoglobin cyanide complex, suggesting that the methemoglobin peroxide compound is in a low-spin state.

Circular dichroic (CD) spectra of two turnip isoperoxidases, P1 and P7, and of their derivatives were measured over the wavelength range of 200 to 650 nm. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of polyhexanide (polyhexamethylene biguanide)-betaine (PHMB-B) compared with 2% chlorhexidine against biofilms of high-risk and/or multidrug-resistant bacterial clones. We examined CSF copper and zinc concentrations in 30 children with acute febrile illness and meningism (control group) and in 37 patients with shortlasting seizures, febrile or not, and acute viral meningitis.
