Impression formation via #foodporn: Effects of posting gender-stereotyped food pictures on instagram profiles.

Previous studies suggested that food may have gender connotations and plays an important role in impression formation. Since sharing food images through social networks is becoming more and more common, the aim of the present study was to examine whether such images influence observers' judgements of a target. Specifically, we hypothesised that posting images of gender-stereotyped dishes would affect impression formation as a function of their congruence with the sex of the profile owner. In a 2 × 3 study, we varied the sex of the owner of a fictitious Instagram profile, and the image-set comp

[The hardware techniques for the restoration of the gait stereotype in the patients following total hip replacement: the personalized approach].

BACKGROUND: total hip replacement has long ago become the «golden standard» for the treatment of dysplastic coxarthrosis in thousands of the patients receiving it every year. In the meantime, the analysis of the specialized literature gives evidence of the lack of a systematic and personified approach to the rehabilitation treatment. AIM: The objective of the present study was to improve medical rehabilitation of the patients following the total hip replacement and to develop the personalized programs for walking modality reconstruction taking into consideration the age and the body weight of

Facilitating women's success in business: Interrupting the process of stereotype threat through affirmation of personal values.

Two field experiments examined if and how values affirmations can ameliorate stereotype threat-induced gender performance gaps in an international competitive business environment. Based on self-affirmation theory (Steele, 1988), we predicted that writing about personal values unrelated to the perceived threat would attenuate the gender performance gap. Study 1 found that an online assignment to write about one's personal values (but not a similar writing assignment including organizational values) closed the gender gap in course grades by 89.0% among 423 Masters of Business Administration stu

Recurrent Guillain-Barré syndrome presenting stereotypic manifestations, positive antiganglioside antibodies, and rapid recovery.

OBJECTIVE: Recurrent Guillain-Barré syndrome (rGBS) has been described as a rare entity with distinct characteristics. However, little is known about rGBS in Asian group. The aim of this study was to identify the incidence and clinical course of rGBS, and to determine its clinical/pathophysiological implications. METHODS: The consecutive data of 117 GBS patients were retrieved from a single university-based hospital in Korea and analyzed in terms of clinical, serological, electrophysiological aspects. RESULTS: A thorough review revealed that three (2.6%) of the enrolled patients had experien

Associations between stereotype awareness, childhood trauma and psychopathology: a study in people with psychosis, their siblings and controls.

INTRODUCTION: Stereotype awareness--or an individual's perception of the degree to which negative beliefs or stereotypes are held by the public--is an important factor mediating public stigma, self-stigma and their negative consequences. Research is required to assess how individuals become more sensitive to perceive stereotypes, pointing the way to therapeutic options to reduce its negative effects and increase stigma resilience. Because perception and interpretation can be guided by belief systems, and childhood trauma (CT) is reported to impact such beliefs, CT is explored in relation to st

Correlation analysis between single nucleotide polymorphism of DRD1 gene and stereotyped behavior of blue fox.

This study was performed to investigate the correlation between stereotyped behavior of the blue fox and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the DRD1 gene. We choose the DRD1 gene as a major gene for investigating the correlation of gene polymorphism and self-biting disease by means of direct sequencing. Part of the DRD1 gene exon of the blue fox was cloned; the length of the whole sequence was 864 bp. Four SNPs were detected and analyzed by the chi-square analysis; the results showed that the gene polymorphism of T206C in the DRD1 gene had a significant correlation with self-biting (P <

3p25.3 microdeletion of GABA transporters SLC6A1 and SLC6A11 results in intellectual disability, epilepsy and stereotypic behavior.

Small interstitial deletions affecting chromosome region 3p25.3 have been reported in only five patients so far, four of them with overlapping telomeric microdeletions 3p25.3 and variable features of 3p- syndrome, and one patient with a small proximal microdeletion and a distinct phenotype with intellectual disability (ID) and multiple congenital anomalies. Here we report on three novel patients with overlapping proximal microdeletions 3p25.3 of 1.1-1.5 Mb in size showing a consistent non-3p- phenotype with ID, epilepsy/EEG abnormalities, poor speech, ataxia and stereotypic hand movements. What do repetitive and stereotyped movements mean for infant siblings of children with autism spectrum disorders?

Repetitive and stereotyped movements (RSMs) in infancy are associated with later diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet this relationship has not been fully explored in high-risk populations. The current study investigated how RSMs involving object and body use are related to diagnostic outcomes in infant siblings of children with ASD (Sibs-ASD) and typically developing children (Sibs-TD). The rate and number of different types of RSMs were measured at an average of 15 months with follow-up diagnostic evaluations approximately 18 months later. While Sibs-ASD displayed higher rates of

Influence of mesenchymal stem cell transplantation on stereotypic behavior and dopamine levels in rats with Tourette syndrome.

CONTEXT: Tourette syndrome (TS) is a heterogeneous neuropsychiatric disorder. Chronic motor and phonic tics are central symptoms in TS patients. For some patients, tics are intractable to any traditional treatment and cause lifelong impairment and life-threatening symptoms. New therapies should be developed to address symptoms and overt manifestations of TS. Transplantation of neurogenic stem cells might be a viable approach in TS treatment. OBJECTIVE: We used mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation to treat TS. We discuss the mechanism of action, as well as the efficiency of this approac

Quantitative assessment of stereotyped and challenged locomotion after lesion of the striatum: a 3D kinematic study in rats.

BACKGROUND: Although the striatum is in position to regulate motor function, the role of the structure in locomotor behaviour is poorly understood. Therefore, a detailed analysis of locomotion- and obstacle avoidance-related parameters was performed after unilateral lesion of the striatum in rats. METHODS AND RESULTS: Using the three dimensional motion capture technology, kinematics of walking and clearing obstacles, head and body orientation were analyzed before and up to 60 days after the lesion. Recordings were performed in treadmill running rats with or without obstacles attached to the t

Is trichotillomania a stereotypic movement disorder? An analysis of body-focused repetitive behaviors in people with hair-pulling.

BACKGROUND: Stereotypic movement disorder (SMD) is characterized by nonfunctional repetitive movements, is typically diagnosed in people with intellectual disability, and by definition excludes people with trichotillomania (TTM). Nevertheless, hair-pulling may be one of a number of body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) that are seen in the general population. Comorbidity of symptoms might support the idea that they are indicative of an underlying stereotypic disorder, and we therefore explored their frequency in people with hair-pulling. METHODS: Participants were recruited with the help

Rett syndrome: an overlooked diagnosis in women with stereotypic hand movements, psychomotor retardation, Parkinsonism, and dystonia?

Rett syndrome is an X-linked neurodevelopmental disorder resulting in profound psychomotor retardation. It is usually diagnosed by a pediatrician or pediatric neurologist. Adult neurologists may, therefore, overlook the possibility of Rett syndrome in women with psychomotor retardation of unknown etiology. We report the case of a woman diagnosed with Rett syndrome at age 49 years. This report emphasizes the diagnostic value of movement disorders, including hand stereotypies, Parkinsonism, and dystonia, in adults with Rett syndrome.

[Compensating and reactivating effects of quinpirole on extinction of conditioned response and amnesia in mice with alternative behavioral stereotypes].

The effect of quinpirole on the passive avoidance habit retention in male C57BL/6J mice with aggressive and submissive behavioral strategies was studied during the habit extinction and amnesia. It was found that the activation of D2 dopamine postsynaptic receptors by quinpirole injections (1 mg/kg, i.p.) prolonged the passive avoidance retrieval during extinction in the submissive mice, while not affecting the basically high memory retrieval level in the aggressors. Under the amnesia conditions, quinpirole reactivated the passive avoidance retrieval irrespective of the base initial behavior st

Effects of repeated methylphenidate treatment in the young rat: sensitization of both locomotor activity and stereotyped sniffing.

The behavioral effects of repeated methylphenidate (MPH) treatment were assessed in young rats. In 4 experiments, rats (starting at Postnatal Day 10 or 16) were pretreated on 5 consecutive days with saline or MPH (2.5-20.0 mg/kg i.p.). Sensitization was assessed after 1 or 7 abstinence days, with rats receiving a test day challenge injection of either a low dose of MPH (2.5 mg/kg) or the same dose of MPH as given during pretreatment. Results show that a test day injection of 2.5 mg/kg MPH produced a sensitized locomotor response in rats pretreated with 2.5-20.0 mg/kg MPH. This MPH-induced loco

Repeated mazindol and methamphetamine administration produces cross-sensitization to stereotyped behavior induced by these agents in rats.

The cross-sensitization to stereotyped behavior between mazindol (MZD) and methamphetamine (MAP) was investigated in rats. MZD (5 and 10 mg/kg/day, p.o.), MAP (5 and 10 mg/kg/day, p.o.) and saline (1 ml/kg, p.o.) were administered once daily for a week. Challenge with MZD (10 mg/kg, p.o.) on the 8th day caused markedly stereotyped behavior in MAP-pretreated group compared with the saline-pretreated control group. MAP (10 mg/kg, p.o.)-induced stereotyped behavior on the 8th day was also greater in MZD-pretreated group rather than the saline-pretreated control group. These results suggest that r

Effect of no synthesis inhibition on striatal dopamine release and stereotyped behavior induced by a single administration of methamphetamine.

1. The authors performed both microdialysis and behavioral measurement in each of rats, in order to examine effects of nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, N omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (LNAME;30 mg/kg,i.p.) on striatal dopamine (DA) release and stereotypy induced by a single administration of methamphetamine (MA)(4 mg/kg,s.c.), simultaneously. 2. LNAME administered prior to MA significantly decreased level of locomotion-stereotypy rating scores induced by MA. 3. In the same animals, LNAME had no effect on MA-induced striatal DA release. 4. The results suggest that NO synthesis inhibition

Mixed D2/5-HT2 antagonism differentially affects apomorphine- and amphetamine-induced stereotyped behavior.

Evidence supports the hypothesis that psychostimulant stereotypy is mediated through postsynaptic dopamine receptors. Given the recent findings of behavioral, neurochemical and electrophysiological studies showing 5-HT2 modulation of dopamine systems, a series of experiments were undertaken to assess the ability of D2 and 5-HT2 antagonists to reverse apomorphine and amphetamine stereotypy in the rat. Haloperidol reduced stereotyped behavior induced by d-amphetamine (50% reduction with 0.162 mg/kg) and apomorphine (50% reduction with 0.112 mg/kg) MDL 28,133A, a mixed D2/5-HT2 antagonist, also r
