Association between Current Substance Use, Healthy Behaviors, and Depression among Ukrainian College Students.

Depression is a pervasive issue among college students worldwide, yet there is a significant gap in the literature regarding its prevalence and coping strategies in the Ukrainian context. The present study aims to fill this gap by investigating how substance use and health-promoting behaviors relate to depressive symptoms among Ukrainian college students. Health-promoting behaviors are an important strategy to prevent depression, whereas substance use can contribute to depression or make it harder to manage. Given the substantial psychosocial problems and stressors related to the ongoing war i

Student Reflections in Simulated Speech and Language Therapy Placements Using Telehealth and In-Person Formats: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Simulated placements, including those within a telehealth setting, are increasingly being relied upon as an alternative to traditional placements within health professions degrees. Existing research is focused around evaluating the learning outcomes generated by simulation programs and advocates the comparable quality of traditional and simulated placements in some contexts. However, there is limited understanding of the nature of student reflections within speech and language therapy simulated placements, and no studies have explored student experiences in both in-person and onlin

Prevalence and predictors of self-medication among university students in Dodoma City, central Tanzania.

Self-medication carries substantial risk of deleterious consequences to individuals and the healthcare system. Understanding its prevalence and predictors is an important pre-requisite for changing this behavior. This was an analytical cross-sectional study that involved university students in two universities in Dodoma city council. We selected 620 study participants for inclusion through multistage sampling procedure, for a semi-structured questionnaire interview. We used STATA version 14 to perform logistic regression analysis in determining the strength of the association. The prevalence o

[Are the immunization services offered to students at university hospitals in Germany sufficient?].

OBJECTIVE: Healthcare professionals have an increased risk of acquiring infectious diseases and can also serve as a source of infection to their patients. The German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends that healthcare professionals should be sufficiently vaccinated against vaccine-preventable infections. Also medical students belong to this target group. For this reason their vaccination status should be checked and -if necessary- completed before working with patients. METHODS: Anonymous questionnaire-based survey among occupational physicians at university hospitals in Germ

Profile of brief symptom inventory-18 (BSI-18) scores in collegiate athletes: A CARE Consortium study.

Objective: The goal of this study was to characterize normative scores for the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI-18) in collegiate athletes to inform decision making about the need for psychological health services in this group. Methods: Collegiate student-athletes (N = 20,034) from 25 universities completed the BSI-18 at their preseason baseline assessment. A subgroup (n = 5,387) underwent multiple baseline assessments. Mental health service use among Black adolescents in Ontario by sex and distress level: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Race is a social construct reflecting broader systemic forces that can affect health, including mental health. We sought to ascertain whether patterns of mental health care service use are associated with race among adolescents in Ontario. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from the 2015-2019 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey. We assessed mental health care access for students in grades 7-12 younger than 20 years based on their responses about their care usage in the past 12 months. We used logistic and Poisson regression models to analyze difference

An initial reliability analysis of a patient counseling rubric to objectively measure student pharmacist performance.

Current literature outlines the documented need for improved communication during patient medication counseling. Although many tools exist, there needs to be a national standardized tool that complies with federal and state law, to objectively measure student pharmacist performance during patient counseling in the community pharmacy setting. The primary objective of this study is to perform an initial analysis of the internal consistency reliability of a patient medication counseling rubric designed with an Indian Health Services theoretical framework. Secondary objectives include measuring ch

They can be found in both high- and low-income countries with disabilities in areas such as speech, language, hearing, swallowing, physical, and neurological, as well as other health problems. In addition, academic programs that prepare students to serve underserved or unserved communities do not exist in some countries. Collaborative projects allow those with expertise to share their knowledge, strategies, methods, and technologies with health practitioners, administrators, educators, students, and

Prevalence of ethanol consumption may be higher in women than men in a university health service population as determined by a biochemical marker: whole blood-associated acetaldehyde above the 99th percentile for teetotalers.

To estimate ethanol consumption by university students attending a student health facility, a biochemical marker of alcohol intake [whole blood associated acetaldehyde (WBAA)] was quantified by fluorimetric HPLC. Over a two year period we studied blood samples, coded by date and sex, from 645 females and 332 males, and compared the results to previously established reference ranges for teetotalers by sex. Men had higher absolute values for WBAA than women (9.9 versus 9.5 microM in the present study). However, significantly greater numbers of women (74%) than men (44%) had WBAA levels above the
