Tendon-bone interface motion in transosseous suture and suture anchor rotator cuff repair techniques.

BACKGROUND: Although many studies involving rotator cuff repair fixation have focused on ultimate fixation strength and ability to restore the tendon's native footprint, no studies have characterized the stability of the repair with regard to motion between the tendon and repair site footprint. HYPOTHESIS: Suture anchor fixation for rotator cuff repair has greater interface motion between tendon and bone than does transosseous suture fixation. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders were tested in a custom device to position the shou

[Experimental studies on the development of peritoneal adhesions in cases of suturing and non-suturing of the parietal peritoneum in rabbits].

The author performed (in general ether anaesthesia) median upper and lower right oblique laparotomy in 50 rabbits (two incisions in each). In 25 rabbits from group I the author closed the wound without suturing the parietal peritoneum whereas in the remaining 25 rabbits from group II they closed the wound suturing the parietal peritoneum. On 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st days following the procedure, 5 rabbits from each group were killed. The author evaluated the wounds of the parietal peritoneum by macro- and microscopy, and also the number of peritoneal adhesions in each group. It was found t

[Suture of the Achilles tendon with a reinforcing-plasty--experiences with 30 primary sutures of Achilles tendon ruptures].

We analysed 32 patients with fresh Achilles tendon rupture. 30 operations with a special primary suture and plasty of the fascia triceps muscle. Most of the patients were content with the operative treatment and the functional result. We saw one wound infection and one wound rand necrosis. The objective controls of OSG foot function and the muscle activity is good.

Spatiotemporal dynamics and regulation of suture morphology and collagen remodeling during trans-sutural distraction osteogenesis.

Trans-sutural distraction osteogenesis (TSDO) is an effective treatment of midfacial hypoplasia, a craniofacial deformity frequently associated with cleft lip and palate. Though extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling plays a pivotal role in craniofacial correction, the characteristics and mechanisms underlying collagen reorganization and cellular morphological adaptations during TSDO remain poorly understood. This study quantitatively delineates the spatiotemporal changes of sutural cells and ECM morphology, revealing a polarized alignment parallel to the direction of mechanical force. Multi-om

Fzd7 Restrains Pink1-Dependent Mitophagy in Suture Stem Cells to Maintain Cranial Suture Patency.

Craniosynostosis results from premature fusion of the cranial sutures, yet the contribution of suture mesenchymal stem cell (SuSC) dysfunction to this process remains incompletely understood. Here, we combined single-cell RNA-seq with 2-µm Visium HD spatial transcriptomics to define stage-specific changes in Prrx1+ SuSCs in the Fgfr2C342Y/+ mouse model. We observed early downregulation of Frizzled-7 (Fzd7), increased mitophagy-associated signatures and readouts with elevated Pink1 expression, and premature osteogenic activation within the SuSC niche. In vitro, loss of Fzd7 increased mitophagy …

Is Absorbable Suture Non-Inferior to Permanent Suture in Sacrospinous Ligament Suspension? A Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Sacrospinous ligament suspension (SSLS) is a common native-tissue prolapse repair procedure. Although effective, 5-year failure rates can approach 70%. Permanent sutures offer durability but carry risks such as erosion and bleeding. Absorbable sutures may reduce these complications, but their efficacy remains uncertain. We hypothesized that absorbable sutures would be non-inferior to permanent sutures in maintaining apical support at 12 months. METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial from January 2023 to January 2025 at a tertiary center. Patients unde…

A Modified Suture Hook Technique for Lateral Meniscus Tears: Chinese Union Suture Procedure (CUSP).

Tears in the lateral meniscus, especially the body and posterior horn, are a common sports medicine injury, and severe cases require arthroscopic treatment. However, the narrow space in the posterolateral compartment of the knee joint makes the surgeon's operation inconvenient. Here we have proposed a suture technique suitable for lateral meniscus posterior horn/body injuries known as the Chinese Union Suture Procedure. The introduction of the posteromedial-transseptal portal allows for a suitable angle of operation for suture hooks in case of injuries to the posterior horn of the lateral meni

Early and delayed suture adjustments after adjustable suture strabismus surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Adjustable sutures increase the success rate of strabismus surgery. However, the optimal timing of postoperative suture adjustment remains controversial. This trial was aimed at comparing the surgical outcomes and pain scores of early or 2 - 4 h and delayed or 24 h postoperative suture adjustment in adult patients undergoing strabismus surgery. METHODS: An open-label, prospective, randomized, comparative interventional study was performed in consecutive adult patients scheduled for eye muscle surgery. Patients were randomized into two groups: the early group, with suture adjustmen…

Mathematical modeling of palatal suture pattern formation: morphological differences between sagittal and palatal sutures.

The median palatal suture serves as a growth center for the maxilla; inadequate growth at this site causes malocclusion and dental crowding. However, the pattern formation mechanism of palatal sutures is poorly understood compared with that of calvarial sutures such as the sagittal suture. In the present study, therefore, we compared the morphological characteristics of sagittal and palatal sutures in human bone specimens. We found that palatal suture width was narrower than sagittal suture width, and the interdigitation amplitude of the palatal suture was lower than that of the sagittal sutur…

Kinematic Analysis of Combined Suture-Button and Suture Anchor Augment Constructs for Ankle Syndesmosis Injuries.

BACKGROUND: Syndesmosis injuries are common, with up to 25% of all ankle injuries being reported to involve an associated syndesmosis injury. These injuries are typically treated with cortical screw fixation or suture-button implants when indicated, but the addition of a suture anchor augment implant has yet to be evaluated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of a suture anchor augment to add sagittal plane translational and transverse plane rotational constraint to suture-button constructs with syndesmosis injuries. We hypothesized that the suture anchor augment oriented in

Biomechanical Evaluation of Proximal Hamstring Repair: All-Suture Anchor Versus Titanium Suture Anchor.

BACKGROUND: Proximal hamstring avulsions are severe tendon injuries and are commonly sports-related. Open and endoscopic techniques as well as different anchor configurations have already been described for proximal hamstring repair. Novel all-suture anchors have been developed to provide decreased bone loss during placement and reduced occupied bone volume when compared with titanium suture anchors. HYPOTHESIS: Complete proximal hamstring avulsions repaired with all-suture anchors will demonstrate equal load to failure and comparable displacement under cyclic loading when compared with titan
