Femoral nerve injury is a rare but devastating complication of direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty that occurs in about 1% of the cases and could potentially lead to debilitating loss of knee extension. Closed rupture of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendon causes loss of flexion at the distal interphalangeal joint. Fifty-five horses were presented to Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital between 1st of January 1980 and 31st of December 1989 for treatment of distal limb lacerations involving flexor tendons (n = 35) or extensor tendons (n = 20).
