In this paper, the quenching of hydrogen peroxide by catalase, sodium hypochlorite, sodium thiosulfate and sodium sulfite, prior to UFC testing, was investigated. Sodium hypochlorite, sodium thiosulfate and sodium sulfite were found to be unsuitable for quenching H2O2 residuals because the procedures are time-consuming and complicated in that they require potentially multiple measurements of the peroxide and chlorine residuals. This study aims to reveal spatial distribution of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur species in marine sediments in Hiroshima Bay, Japan, by direct analyses using a combination of detection tubes and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent widely used to treat solid tumors. However, it can also be highly ototoxic, resulting in high-frequency hearing loss. Cisplatin causes degeneration of hair cells (HCs) and spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in the inner ear, which are essential components of the hearing process and cannot be regenerated in mammals. OBJECTIVE: Cisplatin-based hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is an effective treatment to eliminate residual micrometastases and reduce recurrence after interval cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer. However, cisplatin is often associated with significant adverse effects, particularly acute kidney injury (AKI). This study aimed to identify factors associated with postoperative AKI and develop an alternative preventive protocol.

In the present study, a chi gene from Trichoderma asperellum, designated Tachi, was cloned and functionally characterized in soybean. OBJECTIVE: Calciphylaxis is a potentially lethal syndrome reported mainly in patients with ESRD on hemodialysis. Etiopathogenesis remains unclear and there is much controversy regarding optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Penile necrosis as a disease presentation is extremely rare. Study of a 4 1/2-year-old boy with the unusual combination of acute infantile hemiplegia, ectopia lentis and the absence of homocystinuria showed large amounts of abnormal sulfur-containing metabolites (sulfite, thiosulfate and S-sulfocysteine) in the urine.
